McCain is a thorn in our side because

Back when he could have ( and should have) been sent to jail for complicity in the Keating Five (real) scandal, we gently brushed the wrist (not even slapped)..and he was allowed to apologize & take a censure..

His POW status made people feel sorry for him, and protected him....as did John Glenn's astronaut status.. Those two skated and others did jail time.

The ones we (our party) "gave a pass to" in scandals, have rarely receded quietly into the background..

Iran Contra laxity gave us GHWB (who was probably a mastermind of the whole mess)..and he gave us 8 long years of SonnyBoy.. A cowed/defeated/indicted GHWB, does not lend any credulity to a run from ANY son...ever...

Letting the culprits off easy or to get away altogether, just pisses them off for the trouble they had, and more determined to carry out their vendetta later on..

Mccain should have been forced to resign from the senate back in the 80's, and should have spent the last 30 years wandering around talking to tumbleweeds & cacti.

Public servants should be held to the highest levels of accountability, especially such well-paid and powerful servants.
I would add Karl Rove to your list (though he has never been an elected official) of criminals who is still around biting us.

He should have served a nice long jail term, and didn't.

3. Jail time? Hell, Prescott should have been in the dock at Nuremburg.

He KNEW...and he invested anyway.

Probably figured Hitler was just saving him the trouble of blackballing them at his clubs.

Not the other way around. He was quite a piece of work.

4. It really pisses you off at how of these Rep. scumbags become president or the nominee.

They really have no morals but claim they have family values. The Dems are either squeaky clean (Obama) or have sex scandals (Clinton and JFK) that don't effect their constituents.

5. Yet a large portion of our society keeps on electing criminals, and those who do nothing about it...

Why is that?

Fact is that the minds of all people, including the minds of voters in all parties, go through a process of selectively choosing comfortable facts, and when faced with uncomfortable facts, they block it out and replace it with what they want to believe. This way they can avoid the mind boggling, very stressful conflict called cognitive dissidence, which is the effect of weighing what you want reality to be, and what reality actually is.

For instance...

In one hand, democratic leaders consistently talk about how no one is above the law, and in the other hand, they go about the task of sweeping a mountain of Republican lies and crimes under the rug, and then they tell us to look the other way because the Nation needs to heal.

And what do the democrats get for covering the asses of their criminal republican colleges? They get these criminals convincing half of the voters in the Country into scapegoating the Democrats as the reason the Country is so screwed up. No problem, thanks to things like quid pro quo, and tit for tat, half the voters get to blame the Republicans. And it's a never ending cycle where the very well off always come out on top, the working class always gets screwed, and by the time most people figure it out, if ever, their to dam old and tired to do anything about it because... If your not a politician most people will just ignore you!

But don't get worried, because eventually, someone is going to take the blame and pay the price for all these crimes. Meanwhile, both corporately owned parties have led we the voters to believe that our only option is akin to fighting over which is best, being hung out to dry with blue ropes, or red ropes; ropes that were made in China by the way. Now that's what you call justice...

But if you want real justice, and are looking for the guilty you need to start by looking into the mirror, because in the end it's the voters that have been giving criminals in both parties a free pass, and if the voters keep refusing to face the truth, the voters are the ones who will pay the price.
