Were 49er fans through and through. He and I are watching in a hotel room near the Denver airport. The boy and I were down in Colorado Springs so that he could take his admissions flight at ATP Flight School. We flew down on Friday and he was supposed to fly yesterday but CO Springs got a bunch of snow and visibility was zero the whole day. This morning, the sky was clear, the air was cold and he did his admissions flight with a stunning view of Pikes Peak in the background. We will fly home tomorrow. Sad to not be home tonight but feel fortunate anyway.
Cheers!

I am calling Death Valley NP tomorrow for a welfare check on my pal who is allegedly camping down there. He's supposed to have been in a particular area that is now inaccessible due to road damage so I need to have a welfare check conducted. He went into the park two weeks ago and it's been nothing but the worst rain out there since he got there. I'm thinking he might be stranded out there. Was planning on being gone about a month but conditions don't look too good out there right now... and more rain is coming in a few days.

(24,402 posts)Here I am. Been planning and working on this admissions thing for a while.
Okay so that rain in Death Valley is nothing to mess with. Ive been following it since Im doing lots of waiting for the boy. My best to your pal. I wouldnt mind a DM update when you have time.

(24,402 posts)It is a strange and wonderful journey to help your kiddo take his first steps toward independence. I could have told you when he was two that he would fly planes and hes 18 and been flying for a year. I am overwhelmed with the emotion of it all. Hows my only child.

He sounds like such an amazing young man. Congratulations to him and TY for sharing your journey with us!
The 49ers owners, the Yorks, are from my area in NE Ohio.

(24,402 posts)I really loved CO Springs. It was my first visit there. Its the big city compared to where I live. Owen had to drive
I get too anxious.
What a gorgeous state!

(24,402 posts)I almost cannot handle rising with him in a car. Id much rather fly with him. The child has a lead foot. That said
I still let him drive.

(86,246 posts)for ANY reason?
There WILL be another Super Bowl next year, and in the years after that, and eventually both of todays teams will see action again.
But this ATP test is big stuff! Any word on how he did?
MontanaMama
(24,402 posts)It really was a formality since he has his private pilots license already. However ATP requires it for admission which isnt a bad thing, imo. He will spend 5 months in CO Springs and then go to Ogden, UT to complete his commercial license
then to Denver for multi engine training. After that, maybe back to CO Springs to instruct new pilots until he has accrued 1500 hours in the sky and then he can be hired by an airline.
I know that that is more than you asked but I am still learning this process and it helps me to see it in print! Thanks calimary!

(5,410 posts)Normally, I would have been against KC because "they have won enough Super-bowls already, lately"---
but the MAGAt panic against Taylor Swift made me hope for another victory this year,
just to OWN the MAGAts--- and be able to LAUGH at them for supporting NANCY PELOSI's team!!!!
And they lost. Many Magat heads exploded tonight---
( I hope.... we'll have to wait for the casualty reports...)
I am a Michigander, and a Lions "fan"--- whatever that means--- mostly it means 'continual disappointment'!
One might have established an 'income' by betting against the Detroit Lions, until this year...
I really thought they would finally be in the Superbowl this year, but no... it is what it is.
Anyway, I have a "socialistic view" of professional sports--- I don't believe that any professional team in any sport should be 'allowed' to win the championship for more than 2 years in a row--- at that point they are disqualified, so that other teams will have the opportunity!
lol
So I will not root for the Chiefs next year, regardless of Taylor Swift...
MontanaMama
(24,402 posts)As a lifetime Niner fan, the Lions were my second pick. Dan Campbell what a coach! It was fun to follow Detroit this year.

(5,410 posts)as opposed to losing nearly every game....
I am not enough of a football expert or fan to explain what happened,
but as a Michigander I have been accustomed to seeing the Lions at the bottom of the standings
for three decades or more.....
lol
