Interesting observation about Souzzi's campaign - NYT

Democrats have struggled for years to mount a defense against Republican attacks when it comes to immigration and illegal crossings at the southern border. Suozzi may have just helped write a playbook for how to do it, especially in a handful of crucial House contests around New York.

The issue had all the makings of a political storm. Illegal border crossings reached an all-time high in December, and the arrival of more than 170,000 migrants in New York City has brought the sense of chaos close to home.

Rather than shrink from the issue, though, Suozzi made the migrant crisis a centerpiece of his campaign. He called for Biden to close the border and went on local news to call for the deportation of a group of migrant men charged with assaulting police officers in Times Square.

When his opponent, Mazi Pilip, condemned a bipartisan Senate deal that included stiff border security provisions that conservatives had demanded, Suozzi went on the attack, accusing her of putting partisanship over national security.

“People want to say immigration is a Republican issue, abortion is a Democratic issue,” he said. “These are the issues people care about.”

And just had no passion for the candidate.

Could be seniors looked out the window and said nope.

Could be the orange anus just didn't tell them what to do.

Could be dems are just fired up and better organized, passionate about abortion rights, democracy, and actual legislation to help America, that we were able to mobilize woman, minorities, and the youth vote, and generally kicked magat ass.

for transparently cynical reasons.

I can hope for some sanish moderate Republican-leaning independants who still have some integrity, can't I?

3. About those 'migrants assaulting cops'.

That apparently is not what happened. The NYPD had to release their video data, and, shockingly, it directly contradicts their claim that the confrontation started when one individual in the group refused an order to disperse. He didn't. He was walking away when the cops decided to move on him.

Caving into xenophobia about refugees on our borders, nonsense like 'close the border', and more generally just adopting right wing positions, might help in some districts, but it also alienates our base, and helps justify the complaint that, on many issues, there is no difference between the parties.

A better approach would be to draw a clear distinction between refugee bashing rightwing hate mongering and a refugee policy that addressed both border security and a humane policy for refugees.

Mazi was Stupid.. parroting TSF Shit.. for TSA Not for America.

I love this article.. Thank You So Much!!

Voters were not so quick to turn the page. Many said they were particularly put off by Pilip’s under-the-radar campaign. Suozzi reinforced their worry, calling her “Santos 2.0.”

Which is True, imv!
