I am thankful for a lazy Thanksgiving Day

No drama
No irritating guests
No panic

It's 11:35 AM...I have just finished watching a documentary about pottery-making & weaving...have perused DU off & on all morning.

I may start cooking the turkey soon....or I may just take a nap first.

We will eat when the meal is ready.

It may be 5-ish...or it may be 7-ish..

There will be no shopping

and I may even wait to do the dishes until tomorrow..

The only "special request" from my husband is "black olives".. He's always been an easy-to-please sort of husband ..

I am thankful for that too

He hates turkey, so I will also cook a small ham

He will be thankful for that

4. We ran away from our crazy kids, grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews

Our daughter and son in law are taking care of feeding the mob while we kick back in our RV at the beach.

We're still cooking a turkey but now it's on the grill and just for the 2 of us and the dogs.

Grandma finally wore down and said no to the whole shitaroo this year since she never got a lot of help.

A drama-free day when you can do whatever strikes your fancy is priceless!

I am chilling out alone with my critters today. My daughter lives in Germany and I only get to see her once, maybe twice, a year. I will drive 80 miles away to visit my mother tomorrow and just the 2 of us will go out for dinner. I have a mean-spirited, rude older sister (repuke, of course) who lives in my hometown near my mother. The 2 of them and my niece are having dinner together today.

I decided a few years ago to stay away from family events when my sister is around, which is almost always. She never misses the chance for a free meal, prepared and/or paid for by someone else. She is decent to my mother (probably because my mom pays most of her bills), but rude and obnoxious to everyone else, including her own adult daughter.

I decided about a year ago to just bow out of family gatherings rather than giving my sister an opportunity to attack me. And I would never ask my mother to choose between us, so I let my sister have the holidays with my mom and then make plans to see my mother later when we can be alone.

I have a brother in Denver who also avoids hateful sister. My brother and I always make time to see each other when he is in town. He and I often wonder why my sister is such a jerk . . . we grew up in the same household . . . I guess some people are just born mean.
