Is everyone aware of the new Civil War movie coming in April? I watched the trailer and I'm thinking this is some kind of right-wing propaganda piece, though I hope I'm wrong.
And here's a short write-up about it
Citizens of America. The people of the Florida Alliance and the Western forces of Texas and California will be welcomed back to these United States as soon as their illegal and secessionist government is deposed. This is how the White House (with Nick Offerman at the helm) addresses all its citizens in the new trailer for Civil War (below), the upcoming movie from Alex Garland.
The director of Ex Machina and Annihilation, a master of science fiction and futuristic dystopias, is teaming up with A24 (a guarantee of quality) for another ambitious film whose title leaves little to the imagination. Civil War will reflect what a civil war would look like in contemporary America. In the not-too-distant future, the United States is about to plunge into a conflict that will have catastrophic consequences.
The film will be released on April 26, 2024, and features a cast full of familiar faces, led by Kirsten Dunst (Spider-Man, Melancholia), Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, The Irishman), Wagner Moura (Narcos), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Fences and Lady Bird) and Cailee Spaeny (Priscilla).

(5,123 posts)He did Ex Machina and Annihilation. So I'm guessing it's less RW propaganda and more social commentary. Plus I highly doubt Offerman would be in RW propaganda.

(2,264 posts)North part of the state is more conservative. Every once in a while they'll grumble and threaten to leave and make up their own state.
Either way, strategically it would be a bit of a mess for them. Texas and California don't share a common border, so mutual aid would be difficult.
I'll wait 'til the movie is streaming, though

(40 posts)In fact, quite the opposite.
Rightwingers don't like it when they are portrayed accurately.
I'll be looking forward to watching this movie.

(19,395 posts)I'm getting serious Evangelical Xtian vibes from him in the trailer, and that his party has taken power in DC somehow.
Also at one point in the trailer, it states that the Western Alliance will reach DC by July 4th, which indicates that the government in power is losing badly. It also has the President giving orders to shoot any journalists on sight inside the Capital, which is very RW.
Personally, I think I will go see this. I love a lot of the movies the director has worked on previously.
And if it is what I think it is, it's a good commentary on the worst-case scenario if the far right takes power.

Or prequel/sequel no one asked for.

(16,540 posts)On second thought, don't tell me. I want to be surprised, although I think there's a 99% chance the Union will win again. I can't see them making the Rebels victorious.

(10,639 posts)If the US has another civil war, it will likely divide the nation into 4 or 5 warring regions. Far Left coast, Intermountain, Upper Midwest, Deep South and Northeast. I know the gun-humpers have been salivating for the opportunity to use their stockpiles of weapons and ammo. Kyle Rittenhouse was not an aberration; he was a forerunner.

(12,564 posts)....high-production modelling isn't such a great idea?
I'm sure it's good for media-industry marketers but there are other considerations involved in building a fan-base for this particular theme.
