Court upholds ruling that Mike Lindell must pay expert who debunked election lie $5M prize

David Edwards
February 21, 2024 2:16PM ET

A federal court has confirmed a $5 million arbitration judgment against MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.

In a 12-page order released on Wednesday, U.S. District Court Judge John Tunheim upheld a ruling that found Lindell must pay $5 million to cybersecurity expert Robert Zeidman, who responded to a contest to prove the pillow executive had not obtained evidence from the 2020 election.

Lindell over to pay the prize to anybody who successfully proved it — and Zeidman did.

Lindell had suggested the evidence showed Democrats rigged the 2020 presidential election against Donald Trump.

It is highly unlikely he has the cash, at this point.
He was leveraged to the hilt (D/E of >5) before he boarded the crazy train & ran his company into the ground.
He completely destroyed everything he built for himself.

Justice matters.

Lindell made a challenge at one of his events to disprove his proof of voter fraud. A real expert looked at Lindell's crap and was able to prove that this crap was gibberish. Lindell and the expert went to arbitration and the arbitrator ruled that Lindell owed the $5 million. It is almost impossible to overturn an arbitration ruling in court. I have stopped using arbitration in most deals because you cannot appeal or overturn the ruling of an arbitrator absent proof of a real conflict of interest. The arbitration award was just upheld.

A federal court has confirmed a $5 million arbitration judgment against MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.

In a 12-page order released on Wednesday, U.S. District Court Judge John Tunheim upheld a ruling that found Lindell must pay $5 million to cybersecurity expert Robert Zeidman, who responded to a contest to prove the pillow executive had not obtained evidence from the 2020 election....

Last year, an arbitration panel ordered Lindell to pay Zeidman $5 million. Zeidman asked the federal courts to confirm the decision, while Lindell requested that it be overturned.

"A court's review of an arbitration award is very limited," Judge Tunheim explained in Wednesday's order. "Where parties agree to arbitrate, a court cannot substitute a judicial determination for the arbitrator's decision."

"The Court is not at liberty to review the outcome of an arbitration award simply because one party believes it to be incorrect," he continued. "Retrial of the issues is not within the purview of the Court."

A week after the 2020 election, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick announced that he was offering up to $1 million – paid from his campaign account – “to incentivize, encourage and reward people to come forward and report voter fraud.”

Nearly a year later, Patrick, a Republican, has paid out his first reward: $25,000 to a Democrat in Pennsylvania, who reported a man for voting twice.

Eric Frank, a poll worker, received the money earlier this month for his part in reporting Ralph Holloway Thurman, a Republican who after voting once, attempted to vote a second time as his son, as first reported by the Dallas Morning News.

--snip--

“It was just ironic – it’s my opinion that (Patrick) put up, they put out this bounty to try to find Democrats committing voter fraud. And in fact, it was the complete opposite of what their intentions were,” Frank said.

Neither Patrick’s office nor campaign responded to multiple requests for comment.
