Donald Trump entered the 2024 election year with about 200,000 fewer donors than in the previous presidential campaign four years ago, raising questions about his fundraising machine just as legal bills eat into his war chest.
The Trump campaign and affiliated political action committees attracted roughly 516,000 donors in the second half of last year, compared with 740,000 at the same stage of his last race for the White House, according to Financial Times analysis of the latest data.
President Joe Biden had 473,000 donors in the second half of 2023 fewer than his likely rival in this years White House race, but almost double the number in the second half of 2019, when Biden was competing for the Democratic nomination.
Trump and affiliated groups raised $189mn from his donors in 2023, while Biden drew in $202mn from a smaller donor base.

(2,257 posts)I had hoped it would stop the emails and txts. I dont know what the solution to the fund raising asks is but that wasnt it! Its pitiful to read the texts that come at any time of day. They read as though we arent already sending hundreds of dollars. Its disturbing but we wont stop because .well because. I dont think I will do monthly again though.

(37,111 posts)And I wish they would think of that & how it negatively impacts donations knowing they're going to clutter up your phone & inbox. There is the STOP feature, although I suspect that they have a bank of numbers & when you stop one they switch to another number & again & again.
Our electoral process is an industry in itself. It should never have become the obscene, excessive circus it's become & sadly, the ones who can change it are also the ones who benefit from it. Our side, too.

(25,777 posts)I'll probably increase this for this election cycle.
I, too, am sick of all of the asks for donations. I use GMail and once a week I spend 15 minutes doing mass deletes on these emails. I don't bother reading any of them.

(2,257 posts)I wish they could have a fix for this. I wouldnt be opposed to an end of the quarter notice of a special drive. That seems like a program they could write! I got so overwhelmed with my Gmail that I gave up on it for about six months. 32,000 emails later I needed an intervention to get it up and running!😳

(3,559 posts)numbers for donny doo-doo. I have read where many older folks gave him their cc number and they unknowingly pay a sum each month. Some don't have the wherewithal to stop it.
