James Comer Changes His Tune on Discredited Biden Probe Witness (Daily Beast)

After months of hype, the House Republican now claims that the man charged with lying to the FBI actually “wasn’t an important part of this investigation.”

After the credibility of House Republicans’ much-hyped FBI informant for their impeachment of President Joe Biden fell to pieces last week, House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) dared to claim Wednesday that the person actually “wasn’t an important part of this investigation.”

On Newsmax, Comer tried to downplay the significance of Alexander Smirnov, who the Justice Department charged last week for lying to the FBI when he asserted that Biden received a $5 million bribe from a Ukrainian oligarch. According to the DOJ, Smirnov admitted after his arrest “that officials associated with Russian intelligence were involved in passing a story about” Biden’s son, Hunter, and a Ukrainian gas company he worked for.

In his appearance Wednesday night, Comer claimed that despite Smirnov being one of the “most trusted, highest paid informants with the bureau for over a decade,” he “wasn’t an important part of this investigation because I didn’t even know who he was. All I knew was there was a 1023 [form] that alleged bribery.”

FBI told him not to rely on that form but they just went with It, got the bit between their teeth and ran like hell. It pisses me off. Joe has 50 years as an elected public official. And now they’re going to find something that he did as vice president, why is all the rest of his record clean? Ask Lindsey Graham, he knows Joe, he said Joe wouldn’t take a bribe. He’s oddly silent about it now. Why don’t any journalists ask him what he thinks now?

…. that he had been interviewed by the FBI in either in 2020 or 2021 during which he
was suspected of lying to the FBI and being Russian dirty too.

Comer had such a hard on about “getting the Bidens” that he was not above using false
information aka lying and using somebody that the FBI had told him (Comer) that he was
not a credible source of information.

A brilliant journalist career was snuffed because he was set up by the people who fed him this information. Yet Comer brushes it off and gets back up on the horse.
