My mother, who was getting her insulin for free, is now having to pay $63 for each prescription...

According to the pharmacist, this is because United Healthcare got hacked. Is anyone else having this issue? At first, I thought this was some kind of scam, but evidently this DID happen to UHC and they have not fixed this problem.

1. why does UHC being hacked effect her copay? That's not her problem

Probably what will need to happen is when they get back online, you'll have to submit the receipt for reimbursement. The pharmacy probably charged her a retail price because they couldn't process it through UHC.

It was some middle-man company that facilitates payments, prescription orders, etc across multiple health systems.

The system that is used by many companies, including clinics, hospitals, pharmacies - is unable to verify benefits. Change is owned by United. Therefore even if you do not have insurance with United, you may be affected one way or the other. Costco was not able to even receive electronic prescriptions last week. It's been a nightmare in healthcare.

That Medicare would be helping out those who were affected by the hack ?

I can’t find it on search ☹️

attempted to send estimated payments with lengthy interruptions. Not sure this one is long enough, yet.

Supposedly, the system will be back up at some point this week. Not counting on it.

I think a lot of pharmacies are assuming they will get payment within weeks for long-term patients and are just asking for usual copay. Hope it works out quickly.

8. I hope so, but we are being told it could take weeks. It was reported that United paid a ransom to the hackers

Don't know if it's true or not.

I am still surprised that this issue is not being covered by major news. It is suspected that Russian hackers are behind this.

I am guessing nothing on this scale is done without Putin's blessing.

It just depends on whether your provider, pharmacy, or other healthcare provider uses Change as their processor.

message from the pharmacist that this was an issue and that they would reimburse later once it was cleared up. I am picking up tomorrow so I`ll know how much I will have to pay. I am very surprised that I have not heard anything about it on the news. Such a drag. Sorry for your mom and I certainly hope it is fixed soon.

My Medicine usually costs $125 a month, but this time they only charged me $48. I can just see them slamming me next month to make up for it.
