BTW, the bill doesn't ban tik tok. It forces a foreign company with ties to a communist regime that spies on people to either sell to an American company so it can be regulated by American auditors (which the Chinese government refuses to allow if they want to bring one of their companies to the US) or the foreign company loses the privilege of doing business in the US. Its the same as saying "follow the laws we have or we revoke your business license."
Saying banning tik tok is Communist party propaganda. It's all over my wife's Chinese version of Tik Tok, douyin, with them saying "see, Americans hate us."
It's an interstate commerce issue which the Constitution says Congress can regulate. Byte Dance is a foreign company being allowed to do business here. To be honest, has anyone read the actual bill? I have.
Here it is.:

I have WeChat, which is owned by Tencent. Anything I post from Thailand or say on it FROM Thailand goes through Chinese censors. I changed my name on there to "I dislike XJP" and got a message telling me I was breaking Chinese law before it changed my name.
Tencent is a foreign entity that does business in the US.
The CCP and its toads love telling foreigners about China: "when in Rome, do as Romans," meaning "This is China." Well, this is the US. When it Rome. . .nope, when in China, we have to bend to them. When they are here, we need to bend to them.
Either divest from a Communist Party controlled company or lose your privilege of doing business here. The Bill DOES NOT BAN TIK TOK unless Byte Dance divests. They do, sell to a company that the US can regulate under its laws, and those young people addicted to Tik Tok keep their idiotic app. Byte Dance doesn't and it's bye bye.
Stop doing the CCP's work for it by calling it a ban. The "ban" happens only if Byte Dance refuses to comply to the law

(5,553 posts)Even the UN won't let their people use it, the scary thing is that the same people who freaked out over the U.S. gathering their personal information are fine with handing it to the Chinese government on a platter.

(35,374 posts)So you know that the day after the "ban" TikTok users would still be able to use TikTok just fine if they wanted to.
No apps get deleted. No datastream is blocked.

(42,021 posts)I figured they would make some kind of deal. Interestingly, there are a LOT of influencer's decrying the ban saying things all the problems congress has, and they come together to ban TikTok?
Shou Chew, the CEO of TikTok has made videos from the platform where he talks about the measures they have taken to protect users information. He has appeared with some of the more popular influencers.
So yeah its a bit of a mess, people arent that deep when it comes to their instant gratification.

Dammit, the Chinese people know this after living there. Even my wife does. Why don't Americans know or believe this?

And two will cost us the election...I would rather leave it as it is then hand it over to the GOP and lose the election. Trump is now supporting Tik Tok you know.
