I want to share with as many people as possible!!!

Hubby (88) and I (80) got caught in the big northeastern snow storm for three days (without electricity!!). Our car was buried under maybe a foot of snow, and hidden behind a mountain plowed from the street. So we armed ourselves with shovels and started chipping and chopping away. After a half hour or so of oh-so-slow progress, a huge utility truck pulled up near us and two young men hopped out. They asked if they could help and we eagerly said "Yes!!!" It took them about 8 minutes to shovel us out and clear off the car. I asked if they'd get in trouble if I told their boss what a great favor they'd done for us. "Nope!" So I'm not only contacting Mitch and Mike's boss at Holland Power in Canada, I'm sharing this story with everyone I can think of! How wonderful it was for us to have been so good-deeded!!!

Scary, though, that you tried to do it yourselves. And long power outages are hell.

you need to post the full path to the image file, including the file extension (.jpeg)

Go to the image, then Right-Click on it and Copy Image Link and paste that into your post.

Apparently, crews have come from as far as California to help with the restoration. What a messy storm. Last week I had been hoping for an early start to the garden, now I'm trying to find the garden. LOL.

During last year's monster storm in the Sierra Foothills, a neighbor of ours cut a tree that had fallen across our driveway, and then plowed that steep driveway , allowing propane to be delivered a few days later, as the tank was running near empty.

So happy that you got timely help.

I don't like to fill them out unless I got a particularly fine performance from the human being I finally got through to. Contractors of all kinds will also accept cookies, whether they're volunteer or paid. Of course if you had no power, they understood that cookie production was slow.

We got about 8 inches of heavy, wet snow by Thursday morning, when I had a colonoscopy scheduled, and I had to clear out behind my driver's car after going through prep so I was starving and dehydrated, and couldn't use the snowblower because the snow was so heavy. When I was done, the plow came by and left another huge bank where I had just cleared. I shouted "Motherfucker!" at the plow driver but he probably couldn't hear me and/or didn't care.

When we got home after the procedure, I was all set to cook up a big meal but the power was out, though it came back a few hours later. I had a bologna sandwich instead. The next day, a neighbor showed me that a 90-foot pine between his and my house was cracking under the weight of the heavy snow. Fortunately, I was able to get a crew there within a few hours and they took down four trees that were endangering my house. It was an expensive storm.

I'm glad you got help!
