As has be noted, it could be COVID protection (the servers at my local coffee shop tend to wear them), could be a (throwback) look/fashion, could be an attempt to thwart surveillance by whatever authority. Israeli private-sector surveillance software (facial recognition) is among the "best" on the market and widely used. One might expect surveillance from other entities as well, not the least of which is the U.S. government. Protesting may become a crime if Trump wins, for example, and who knows if they'd abolish the ex post facto limitations on prosecution/persecution. At present I tend to wear a mask in protest for all of those reasons. You?
