Calls for violence and terrorism at the Columbia University encampment protests continued to surface on Sunday in footage published by pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian activists.
[Izz ad-Din] Al-Qassam [Brigades], make us proud, take another soldier out, anti-Israel demonstrators chanted on Friday night in a video published on social media by pro-Palestinian activist ThizzL. We say justice, you say how? Burn Tel Aviv to the ground. Go Hamas, we love you. We support your rockets too.
On Wednesday, in another video published by ThizzL, activists called for Hamas's military wing to "kill another soldier now."
During a speech live streamed by the Palestine Solidarity Working Group on Saturday night, a protest leader said in a speech, "Let it be known that it was the Al-Aqsa Flood that put the global intifada back on the table again. And it is the sacrificial spirit of the Palestinian freedom fighters that will guide every struggle on every corner of the earth to victory."
"Remember that militancy breeds Resistance," said the speaker. "Thousands upon thousands of students around the world have been moved to rebel because of your militancy."

There goes the Violent "Protesters" don't support Hamas excuse. As If It Hasn't Been Clear Before.

Also, Columbia is private property, and it is up to the school to set the rules for what occurs on their property

(92,395 posts)is on campus, however, any protest calling for violence on public or private land is deplorable, and echos Charlottesville, Virginia

(54,065 posts)But calls for violence are a barometer of how badly desperate problems have been allowed to fester without solutions.
Just reminds me of how MLK described riots as "the language of the unheard." If you only cluck your tongue and disapproval, you're contributing to the problem as well as to the conflict continuing on the worst possible trajectory

(2,552 posts)You think that violence or violent rhetoric is a valid and useful form of protest?

(9,894 posts)not understand MLK's point?
Mossfern
(2,552 posts)but I don't think that he was condoning violence as a tool, but explaining the reason for it.
There's a difference. Many of these students (protestors) on October 8th,didn't even know what "From the River to the Sea" meant when they were chanting it. They didn't know much of the history of the area nor which river and what sea. They were hardly frustrated from being "unheard."

(50,303 posts)In Vietnam, the United States was directly involved and the President was able to end the war with the stroke of a pen. In this case, Joe Biden does not have the ability to do that. We could cut off every dime to Israel and the war would probably continue. The protesters should be in Tel Aviv, not on American university campuses. All they're doing is ginning up anti-Semitism and support for a terrorist organization, all the while destroying their futures with college expulsions and Internet videos that will follow them forever.

(3,783 posts)Biden is not president of Israel. I am pessimistic, though I'd like to be pleasantly surprised: I don't think this is going to end well for either side.

(4,924 posts)The characterization of these "protests" as Pro-Palestinian rather than anti-Israel and anti-Jew infuriates me. They do not want a peaceful resolution with Israel. They want us all dead.

(25,583 posts)Did you ever notice that when it comes to Jooz theres always a good reason to annihilate us? Also, no matter the horror perpetrated against a Jew or Jews or the Jewish People, after stating the horror, theres always a but.
Hey anti-Semites: try this on for size: Charles Whitman killed a whole bunch of students from the roof of the tower in Texas BUT students are known to be lazy, cheat on their exams and papers, and have illicit sexual relations out of wedlock.
Youd never see that in a paper, would you? Well thats whats done to us. Tel Aviv bus bombing in the middle of the day? Well, its ok because (fill in the blank).
Pieces of shit.

(18,770 posts)since Tel Aviv is not a military base and the rockets are directed at cities full of civilians.
Then I recall what Hamas has said about October 7, "We only targeted current and future members of the IDF". {emphasis mine}
In their eyes there are no Israeli civilians or children. Even infants are, or will be, soldiers so all are valid targets.
The protesters agree with this logic.

(33,400 posts)There seem to be some different factions within the Pro-Palestine protests.
I hope I'm not violating some DU rule by surmising that this militant, pro-Hamas rhetoric is coming from Muslims in the crowd, and not, say, JVP members. Some of them might be students, some of them might be on Student Visas, some of them may not be students at all.

(4,975 posts)Other than that - no idea what the "Israel Files" is or anything really about the video. Do know this is not a video of any campus encampment. So - agree - these people shouting outside a university near a subway stop are shameful.

I don't support Netanyahu. Jews as a whole should not be blamed. But it seems they are blamed all the time. They only comprise 15.7 million or 0.2% of the world.
It doesn't seem that the Palestinians are doing anything about the Hamas.
