Abortion Is Now Almost Completely Banned In the South

Florida’s six-week abortion ban took effect today.

That means abortion is now either banned or severely restricted in nearly the entire southern United States.

North Carolina, which has a 12-week abortion ban, is not a practical option for many patients due to a mandated 72-hour waiting period.

The only Southern state with no gestational limits on abortion is Virginia.

It’s certain this will cause massive implications for reproductive care across the South.

The political implications are still to be determined.

IMHO, the short list of outcomes includes:

Healthcare professionals fleeing these states - causing issues for significant majorities of patients.
Increased pregnancy-related mortalities
Residents fleeing these states
Significant drops in pregnancy rates (rates are already down 10% from 2010-2019 per the CDC

On the political side, either voters will rise up and change their minds about these laws or they'll double down on their insanity and make them even worse.

It's going to be interesting to say the least.

...I'm angry. This only changes if we do all we can to get EVERY Republican out of office. No matter how hard that seems, that has to be the goal.
