tRump was an unknown quantity (politically) and the country was thirsting for change of any kind from the status quo. That fact enabled him to squeak out a dirty victory. Extremely dirty, as the public is finally seeing part of in this trial. Those with eyes to see know all the other dirt as well.
4 years ago, the country had seen enough to decide they didn't want another 4 years of tRump.
2 years ago, we saw the reversal of Roe vs Wade. Since then, we've been seeing the horrific consequences.
Now, there is no excuse. Americans have seen what 4 years of tRump did. They've seen 4 years of a Biden recovery.
There is simply no way tRump wins again. Fool me once, and all that.

(5,354 posts)But there are more us than there are of them. The only way trump gets back in the White House is if too many of us don't show up to vote.

(794 posts)He lost the popular vote by 3 million in 2016 and 7 million in 2020. He barely squeaked out an electoral college victory 8 years ago and we've been suffering the consequences ever since.
When people repeatedly say, "just get out and vote" it's hard not to be cynical because the majority of Americans have been turning out to vote against Trump and his MAGA goons.
Truth is Trump could lose the popular vote by 10 million this November and still 'win" the Presidency thanks to the electoral college.
And if you're living in a ruby red state like myself it's easy to get pessimistic about the idea we can just vote Trump out. Especially after his January 6th insurrection.

(6,787 posts)Youth, women, POC, Dems, Swifties and traditional repubs will turn the authoritarian tide and start the metaphorical hunt for billionaires that have been hiding/hoarding wealth at the expense of everyone. Unlimited money has prevailed since Reagan. The citizens/planet get one last election to reverse the trend. Hopefully it's not too late. A multi-generational struggle.

(111,521 posts)who was all capped teeth, coiffed hair plugs, and a scripted routine that had people thinking he was the smartest and bestest businessman on the planet.
Now he's a flabby, deflated, and swearing old fart who has to be told like a 4 year old to stop squrming in court.
While I agree with you about his chances, I didn't think they were all that great in 2016 even with the false glamor---until Comey threw the election to him at the very end.
Comey got shitcanned and I don't see anyone coming up with any kind of October surprise on Biden. "He's old" is the best they've got.
However, no, we can't be complacent, we got hit with a disaster once. Twice might actually finish us off. It's too important to lay off this time. Definitely GOTV!
