Trump is Willing to Trade Our Children's Future for a Billion Dollars

Image by Cristian Ibarra from Pixabay

The Washington Post revealed yesterday that Donald Trump told a group of fossil fuel executives that if they’d give him a billion-dollar bribe, he’d use it to become president and then eliminate all of President Biden’s environmental regulations and prevent any new ones from coming into law.

(snip)

This comes the same week that The Guardian broke the story that most of the world’s top climate scientists surveyed — all of them among the 843 authors of the IPCC’s most recent report — believe the planet is going to crash through the 1.5° Celsius threshold they’d previously defined as a disaster scenario. Most are now expecting us to hit 2.5° or even 3° Celsius, levels that could make much of the planet uninhabitable for humans. And it’s going to happen a hell of a lot sooner than anybody had anticipated just a decade ago.

It’s gotten so bad that some climate scientist’s are questioning the wisdom of their own families having children.

In other words, Donald Trump and his Republican friends are explicitly willing to trade our and our children’s future for a billion dollars. And they couldn’t have offered this deal to the industry if five corrupt Republicans on the Supreme Court hadn’t legalized political bribery of both politicians and judges (like themselves and Aileen Cannon) when they overturned the good government laws Congress passed in the wake of the Nixon bribery scandals in the 1970s.

They have been making plans for their little hideaways.

Of course they are fooling themselves.

Because he can't trade what he doesn't have.

The idea of a future for children doesn't exist for him.

China produces as much greenhouse gases as all the other industrialized nations combined and that includes the US

China couldn't evolve to renewables fast enough, which are they are trying to do, instead of allowing a corrupt, morally bankrupt man/child to sell their futures out to like minded oligarchs, while the corporate media myopically stays fosussed on a national soap opera in an attempt to write *rump in as a protagonist.

Under your scenario, at least it would be China doing the destroying of our future generations and not us doing it.

9. I'm just pointing out that the US alone can't mitigat climate change

It would require a worldwide effort on a massive scale and humans, at best, only have a few years to do it.

While China has promised to reduce emissions, even if they kept their to stated goals, they won't even begin to level out their yearly emissions until the 2030s at the earliest and it will be sometime after that before they begin reducing their yearly emissions.

Then there's India which is on track to replace the US in 2nd place.

Biden could win reelection in a landslide and Trump ends up in prison and our children and grandchildren will still be facing a very dark future.

11. I couldn't agree more, it definitely needs to be a global effort,

but we can't base what we know to be the right course of action for our children and grand children's sake based on what China or India or anyone else does or doesn't do.

We were doing this for decades if not a century or more before and China and India joined the Industrial Revolution and we knew the consequences at least as far back as 1958.

So we can keep using excuses or diversions as to why we shouldn't change, (all the other kids aren't doing it or are doing it) but that's all it is, excuses to salve our conscious while the world burns and our grandchildren inherit the wind.

It's too late.

What we can do is to help the younger generations prepare to adapt to what's coming

However if one is ready to give up the fight, then the best advice that I can give them to help the younger generations is not have any children.

Even under President Biden, it's been "drill baby drill". We now surpass Saudi Arabia and Russia as the global leader in liquid fossil fuels.
