U.S. Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, who is seeking the Republican nomination in Montanas Senate race, removed a section from his ranchs website advertising its proximity to public land.
According to the Little Belt website, Sheehy owns and operates the ranch with fellow veteran Greg Putman. Prior to March, the propertys website also boasted about its proximity to public land and impressive game in a section titled The Ranch. This section has since been deleted, and a recent NBC News report confirmed that the property does not allow public hunting access on its 37,000 acres.
Little Belt also does not participate in Montanas block management program, which is specifically designed to work with private land owners to provide free public hunting access to people in the state. As recently as 2022, Sheehys ranch did provide luxury hunting packages, including one for $12,500.
According to a voter survey poll from March conducted by the University of Montana, 47% of the states voters consider clean water, clean air, open spaces and open public lands to be very important factors in deciding who to elect.

(8,142 posts)What if a government subsidized cheese recipient had a fondue party at their home in the projects and charged admission?
And what if they didn't?
And what if either scenario got reported to the public?
And what do you think "conservatives" would say?
The hypocrites making their fortunes on public land PISS ME OFF!

(1,602 posts)More and more huge ranches are restricting access to public lands by enforcing closures. Hunters don't like it when they head out to the national forest and find themselves facing a closed gate and private security guards. In the western states, there is a long tradition of crossing private land to hunt on public land. In fact, there are even laws intended to guarantee those rights. But ordinary citizens are competing with hunting businesses that cater to wealthy clients from out of state. The "ranchers" who operate these businesses don't like the idea of their rich clients being disturbed by Joe Sixpack on his way to camp and hunt in Dead Tree National Forest, so now we have legal battles like the corner crossing cases. Class warfare. Guess which class is winning? But ordinary citizens vote against their own interests because Fox News tells them to. (sigh). Edited to add link.

Dog, I hope you're right.
