Norway, Ireland and Spain recognize Palestinian state; Israel condemns
The diplomatic moves are purely symbolic — but not without some power.

LONDON — The Spanish, Irish and Norwegian governments on Wednesday announced they would recognize a Palestinian state, saying there would be no peace in the Middle East without a nation for the Palestinians.

“In the midst of a war, with tens of thousands killed and injured, we must keep alive the only alternative that offers a political solution for Israelis and Palestinians alike: Two states, living side by side, in peace and security,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.

“There will be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution. There can be no two-state solution without a Palestinian state,” he added.

In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz ordered the immediate recall of the Israeli ambassadors to Norway and Ireland. “I am sending a clear message today: Israel will not be complacent against those who undermine its sovereignty and endanger its security.”

Lebanon with Hezbollah.

And there wouldn't be "pockets" of Palestinian land if Israel hadn't appropriated land not designated to it by the U.N. Charter. There would be just one border.

at the end of the Arab war against Israel for accepting the UN offer of statehood. Tell me where you see an unbroken border for Palestine. I see Israel, with Gaza and the West Bank as separate from each other.

Here is the 1947 UN proposal for land division between Israel and Palestine. No unified, one piece of land for Palestine then, either.

So why are you making up tales about an unbroken Palestine?

The Palestinians have rejected statehood that also included an Israeli state. Have they changed their position?

Where ‘they’ is the PLO. Also the more recent Gulf States (SA) initiative included mutual recognition not only between Israel and Palestine but also Saudi Arabia and their allies.

This is Likud's Charter. It used to be the quiet part, now much bolder.

People who continue to blame Palestinians by claiming they rejected a two-state, knowingly miss the point. There was never a chance for a two-state after Likud came to power. Likud had always wanted it all, for Israel. Everything else was just theater.

Though the EU countries and Norway won’t be recognizing an existing state, just the possibility of one, the symbolism helps enhance the Palestinians’ international standing and heaps more pressure on Israel to open negotiations on ending the war.

It seems much more a symbolic than practical recognition.

I expect more nations in Europe and around the world will join in supporting a two state resolution to the current madness.

Even France voted for it.

Germany, UK, Ukraine and few more countries abstained.

Only Czech Republic and Hungary voted against it.

The resolution overwhelming passed at the UN, but it is non-binding.
