Kansas state representative (you know which party) charged with DUI and possessing a firearm while under the influence

Kansas state Rep. Carl Maughan (R-Colwich) has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and a misdemeanor firearm charge stemming from an arrest on March 4.

The Topeka Police Department arrested Maughan at 4 a.m. on March 4 after seeing him fail to switch lanes properly on a road. Maughan posted bail that afternoon, but he was later 4brought up on four charges during his May 8 court date, including driving under the influence, possessing a firearm while under the influence, failure to signal a lane change and failure to maintain a single lane. Maughan was stripped of his position as the vice chair of Kansas House Judicial Committee after his arrest.

In a separate incident, Maughan could have his law license suspended by the Kansas Supreme Court due to a conflict of interest in his representation which he failed to obtain a proper waiver for.

The 52-year-old has served in the Kansas state legislature since 2022, when he ran unopposed to fill a vacancy in the body. Maughan is seeking reelection this November and will face primary opponent Darren Pugh on Aug. 6.

Our justice system is a joke unless you are a common man or woman and then they have no mercy.
