Judge Cannon Hearing on Trump Classified Docs Case Goes off the Rails

Judge Cannon Hearing on Trump Classified Docs Case Goes off the Rails

Apparently nothing in this classified documents case is normal.

The New Republic, May 22, 2024

Judge Aileen Cannon held an unusual hearing on Wednesday to consider arguments to throw charges against one of Donald Trump’s co-defendants, his former valet Walt Nauta, in the classified documents case. But it didn’t take much for proceedings to quickly devolve into a shouting match.

Nauta’s concerns were overshadowed in the Ft. Pierce, Florida, courtroom by a disagreement between his lawyer, Stanley Woodward, and prosecutor Jay Bratt. Woodward claimed that Bratt pressured Nauta to cooperate with the prosecution by threatening to hold up Woodward’s nomination to a judgeship. Nauta argued that his lack of cooperation with the Justice Department’s probe into Trump’s mishandling of classified documents was the reason he was charged.

“I think the implication was that I was to travel and convince Mr. Nauta to cooperate with the investigation, and if I didn’t [do] that, there would be consequences,” Woodward added.

Prosecutor David Harbach didn’t take kindly to this account and accusation.

But, new evidence has come to light in recently unsealed documents showing that Trump hoarded classified documents even after the 2022 search at Mar-a-Lago. Moreover, after the federal government subpoenaed security footage from his Mar-a-Lago estate, the former president ordered his staffers to avoid security cameras when moving boxes around. Trump faces 42 felony charges in the case related to illegally retaining national security documents and conspiracy to obstruct justice, to which he has pleaded not guilty.

Appears to me the judge I. Lean Bannon has given the defendant all that he has asked for, including last month out of the courtroom, and today a way to eliminate a star prosecutor. Reminds me of the time the pukes sent a GOP presidential debate briefing book to a top Democratic aide who had to recuse himself from helping prep the candidate in order to stay on the high road.

More counts of obstructing justice. Would they have to be included with the current case?

The Orange Turd continues to break the law, including his betrayal of the country.

Any Democratic former president who had a basement full of military secrets and obstructed their retrieval and return to the government for three years would long ago be convicted and busting rocks at Leavenworth.

The hearing was about a motion to dismiss, not remove a prosecutor.

Cannon is unlikely to dismiss, as that would give Smith an opening to appeal to the 11th circuit.

She is more likely to use this motion to add to the alReady delayed timeline.

Rather than refusing to consider the strategem, the allegation the prosecutor threatened a defense attorney’s nomination to a bench.

Ty Cobb rips Trump documents judge: ‘This case could have easily gotten to trial’

by Nick Robertson
The Hill, May 23, 2024

Former Trump White House attorney Ty Cobb went after Judge Aileen Cannon Wednesday for indefinitely postponing former President Trump’s criminal classified documents case for procedural reasons, accusing her of “incompetence.”

“I don’t think this case will move at all,” Cobb said in an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett. “And I think the fact that she’s scheduling hearings, multiple hearings, sort of one or two motions at a time is compelling evidence of that. Most federal judges would have long ago ruled on all the pending motions.”

“And frankly, this is a case that should’ve started trial yesterday or two days ago when the original trial date was set,” he continued. “This case could have easily gotten to trial. Only her incompetence and perceived bias has prevented that.”

Snip…

After Cannon dropped a key trial deadline earlier this month, effectively delaying the case indefinitely, Cobb said the judge has “no intention of getting this case to trial.”

Judge Cannon should get locked up, too, for being an accomplice.

Aileen Cannon Suspending Trump Case Leaves Legal Experts 'Disgusted'

By Mark Driscoll
Newsweek, May 08, 2024

Legal analysts are accusing Judge Aileen Cannon of pro-Donald Trump bias after indefinitely suspending his classified documents case.

Cannon, a Trump appointee, indefinitely postponed the trial on Tuesday, citing legal disputes around classified evidence. Cannon said there were eight outstanding substantive pending motions for her to rule on and predicted this will take until at least late July.

Snip…

Attorney Norm Eisen, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute, told Newsweek that he is disgusted by Cannon's decision.

"I'm not surprised, but I am disgusted," he said. "Whether she's doing it out of partiality for the former president or is just a lousy jurist, this latest blunder by Judge Cannon takes the cake.

"This case should have been tried to a verdict already and would have been if any normal judge had gotten it."

Soon as she was "randomly" picked as judge.

. . . if he re-appoints Sleepy Garland as AG, I'm calling my county voter registrar and telling her to deduct one from Biden's vote count.

FURTHERMORE -- if Trump never goes to trial for the classified document case, then, every single person serving time for mishandling classified documents needs to immediately appeal to the Supreme Court to be pardoned, even admitted spies.

We need a proper, non-bootlicking judge to merely get the case started.
