Justice Department says illegal monopoly by Ticketmaster and Live Nation drives up prices for fans

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department filed a sweeping antitrust lawsuit against Ticketmaster and parent company Live Nation Entertainment on Thursday, accusing them of running an illegal monopoly over live events in America — squelching competition and driving up prices for fans.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Manhattan, was being brought with 30 state and district attorneys general and seeks to break up the monopoly they say is squeezing out smaller promoters and hurting artists.

The Biden administration needed to be more proactive about rising inflation. For example, announce a DOJ or FTC or any other agency investigation into rising rents. The investigation should be into any patterns of price fixing among landlords. Not saying that any one person would be prosecuted, but a simple announcement of an investigation would go a long way to make Americans believe that their government is doing something, anything about rising rents even if it's largely symbolic. The same is true with food prices. Again, I'm not saying anyone or any corporation would be indicted but an investigation would go a long way to bolster confidence.

So glad my local symphony does their own tickets- it would be triple cost if TicketBlaster was involved.
