It's not just Alito.

Andy Kroll @AndyKroll
It's not just Justice Alito.

Here's the "Appeal to Heaven" flag flying outside of conservative powerbroker Leonard Leo's home in Maine.

Photo taken by a nearby resident who shared it with @ProPublica and gave us permission to publish it.

As @ProPublica reported, Leo played a key role in Alito's confirmation to the Supreme Court, just as he did for the court's five other conservative justices.

Leo and Alito are said to be close. They've dined and traveled together.

Last year, @ProPublica revealed that Leo had helped organize an Alaska fishing vacation that included Justice Alito and billionaire Paul Singer.

Singer later had a major case come before SCOTUS, which ruled 7-1 in his favor, w/ Alito in the majority

Supreme Court 'Architect' Donor Flew Same ‘Appeal to Heaven’ Flag as Alito
Leo reportedly helped organize a luxury Alaska trip at the center of those ethics scandals, including arranging Alito’s seat on a private jet that was paid for by a billionaire hedge fund chief. And Leo reportedly steered consulting payments to Thomas’ wife, Ginni.

If i had the money I'd rent a helicopter capable of carrying a helibucket. Then I'd have them fly to the nearest sewage treatment plant and scoop up the freshest available. Then proceed to Leo's house (or Alito's) and dump it right onto the roof and let it splatter everywhere. And then consider their 'appeal' answered.

... Is to get a Democratic majority in Congress, both houses, and Biden re-elected.

As part of that, reforms to the Supreme Court - the President doesn't pick new jurists, but has to choose from choices given to them by an independent non partisan panel ... increase the number of seats in the court to mirror the number of circuits, cases on the Supreme Court to be decided by a panel of jurists, not necessarily the whole court, jurists to retire at 75.... And have all this codified into law.

THE NEW YORK Times reported on Wednesday that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito flew an “Appeal to Heaven” flag at his New Jersey beach house. The flag’s close association with both far-right Christian nationalists and the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 raises serious questions about Alito’s ability to rule impartially. The conservative court on which Alito sits is largely the product of right-wing dark-money overlord Leonard Leo, and — wouldn’t you know it — Leo flew the same “Appeal to Heaven” flag outside of his house in Maine.

Leo said in a statement later on Thursday that he flies the flag because “it was the first flag of the navy of the US” and that it symbolizes “civic duty and philanthropy toward one’s country”; because he “like naval flags”; and because as a resident of Maine he “likes pine trees.’

The “Appeal to Heaven” flag is white with an evergreen tree at its center. The flag was initially a Revolutionary War banner, with the motto taken from philosopher John Locke. Recently, however, the flag has been co-opted by far-right Christian nationalists looking to impose their will on the United States by any means necessary. Rolling Stone reported last fall that House Speaker Mike Johnson flew the flag outside of his office in Congress, and that he has ties to the New Apostolic Reformation, a network of Christian leaders who believe that God has given Christians a “mandate” to “conquer” the government and other aspects of life.

The New Apostolic Reformation is responsible for the “Appeal to Heaven” flag’s recent prominence in far-right Christian nationalist circles — which overlap with the MAGA movement. New Apostolic Reformation leaders were early to endorse him ahead of the 2016 election, and “Appeal to Heaven” flags were spotted at the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot. The Times reported last week that Alito flew an upside-down American flag — a symbol of solidarity with the “Stop the Steal” movement — outside of his house ahead of President Biden’s inauguration.

Five Facts about Rob Arkley, Funder of Luxury Travel for Supreme Court Justices and Groups Packing the Court

Lisa Graves. November 7, 2023

What Just Happened? Senator Dick Durbin has announced the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on a subpoena to Robin Pickering Arkley II on Thursday, November 9, as the Committee investigates the big Supreme Court ethics scandals.

The Committee is also planning to issue subpoenas to billion-dollar trust fund operator Leonard Leo, who helped arrange expensive trips and more for justices, and to billionaire Harlan Crow, who has provided luxury travel and more to Justice Thomas. Senator Durbin and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse first requested information about those luxury gifts in July, but Rob Arkley, Leo, and Crow refused to provide information.

Arkley Is Less Well Known But a Player. Most coverage has focused on Leo, who helms a dark money influence machine that helped pack the U.S. Supreme Court with right-wing activists committed to overturning Roe v. Wade and more, and Crow, who has given a shocking array of valuable secret gifts to Thomas (including luxury travel to exclusive locales, tuition for Thomas’ ward, and the purchase and refurbishment of the home of Thomas’ mother). But Arkley has received far less attention. Here are five things to know about Rob Arkley.

I know it is bad form to say "annihilated", but he should at least have all his powers annihilated/removed so that he could not have any say in the appointment of anyone, be it Supreme Court clerks, justices, or anyone else. I'd personally like to see him exiled to Siberia, but I don't think even Vlad would have him. Arkley can go too.

Leonard Leo is the closest thing to Saruman that lives with US borders.

All he wants is Catholic authoritarian control. What could be wrong with that?

“But for the past decade it has become a symbol of the NAR movement and their goal of establishing a “Seven Mountain Mandate” over the government.”
