Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) is asking people to chip in $5, $10, or even $25 to help Donald Trump meet his fundraising deadline. However, before you reach for your wallet, you might want to read the fine print. A social media ad from Scott leads to a donation page with an interesting allocation setup.
The ad shown here asks for donations to help Trump meet his fundraising deadline and directs users to a WinRed donation page.
The page asks potential contributors if they will join Scott by making a donation to help Trump win in November. However, unless a contributor clicks to view the default allocations, they might be unaware that 95% of their contribution goes towards Tim Scott for America SC-SEN and only 5% goes towards the Trump National Committee JFC President. This information is only displayed if you specifically click on a link to view the default allocation.
Previously, some Republicans were accused of lining their own pockets in a HuffPost article that detailed similar allocations involving Herschel Walkers Senate run. According to the article, some Republicans were accused of allocating only 50% towards Walkers campaign. The article also noted that The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) had an allocation setup that resulted in only 1% of contributions going towards Walkers campaign.
