Ohio is running out of time to get Joe Biden, the sitting President of the United States, on the ballot this fall. Failing to do so is simply unacceptable. This is ridiculous. This is (an) absurd situation, DeWine said.
The question of whether Biden will appear on the state ballot has become entangled in a partisan legislative fight to keep foreign money out of state ballot campaigns, a year after cash tied to a Swiss billionaire boosted a successful effort to enshrine abortion rights in the solidly red states constitution......
DeWine said he spoke to LaRose on Thursday and he said were up against a wall. LaRose told him next Wednesday is the drop-dead deadline.
Ive waited. Ive been patient. And my patience has run out, DeWine said.
Alabama recently changed its law to ensure Biden will appear on fall ballots. The Alabama bill offers accommodations to the president like those made four years ago for then-President Donald Trump.

(3,498 posts)Biden will be on ballot. Not sure how this happened in first place.

(34,423 posts)The law has been in existence for a number of years (since 2010, IIRC). The Democrats set the convention for after the deadline (in a number of states - not just Ohio).
Because the convention is after the deadline, Biden can't be on the ballot unless there is a legislative exception made - or Democrats formally nominate Biden before the convention.
This isn't the first time the convention has been after the deadline - it is, however, the first time that ONLY the Democratic convention is after the deadline. That means the Republican legislature can refuse to make an exception without penalizing the Republican candidate.

(34,423 posts)It is more that Democrats wanted a later primary - and assumed the same exceptions would be granted as have been every election since the law was enacted. The difference is that this time the Republican primary is early enough to not need an exception, which allows Yost (SOS) to play games.
