Montana’s senior senator also in a close election that could determine the balance of power in the U.S. Senate
Montana’s senior U.S. senator and only Democratic member of the Congressional delegation is calling on President Joe Biden, also a Democrat, to not seek re-election in November.
Tester is only the second Democrat in the Senate to make the call on the Biden candidacy, but other media report that former President Barack Obama, U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, and Senate Majority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-New York, have visited with Biden recently, privately asking him to reconsider his decision to stay in the race.
“Montanans have put their trust in me to do what is right, and it is a responsibility I take seriously. I have worked with President Biden when it has made Montana stronger, and I’ve never been afraid to stand up to him when he is wrong,” Tester said. “And while I appreciate his commitment to public service and our country, I believe President Biden should not seek re-election to another term.”
Only Vermont’s Sen. Peter Welch, a fellow Democrat in the Senate, has publicly called for Biden not to seek re-election.

(6,756 posts)If they don't stand up to the donors' attempts to choose the candidates, it will never stop.
This is another huge threat to democracy.
I'm sorry that Tester and the others have fallen for it.

(91,711 posts)...but some people think we belong under the bus.
Those people don't deserve our respect, and their anti-democratic bullshit doesn't deserve to be under our Democratic party banner.

(16,577 posts)sh*t they aren't saying publicly right now. I don't believe it's just about the debate or polls.

(91,711 posts)...I think all of this is just trolling Democrats who are trying as hard as they can to support the person we voted for, against these privileged politicians.
It's incredibly triggering, and this is an incredibly small number of actual legislators, not to mention the 14 million who this fellow doesn't seem to give a shit about.

But I do think the polls and debate performance are pieces of it.

(91,711 posts)...Tester's in a close race and just bailed on the president who never bailed on him.
Who really gives a fuck about disloyal and self-serving politicians who say NOTHING about OUR votes?
They're trampling votes cast and won trying to tear the president down who brought the party back to the WH.
I don't believe this centrist gives a damn about the interests and needs of my community. He just walked all over us.
It's people like this who will choose FOR US, if they succeed.

(1,064 posts)I have recently donated to his and Sharrod Brown's campaign as two vulnerable Senators. I will continue donating to Brown as well as Senator Heinrich, in my state. Enough said.

(91,711 posts)...they're not just revolting against Biden. They're revolting against the people who voted for him, and I think Tester's going to find out with a drop in HIS support.
I mean, he's decided on some arbitrary personal reason to do this. It's fair game for anyone to reciprocate, and I'm sure they will.
There's more support than you think out here for Joe Biden, and it's hardening against these people emulating the 'alternative electors' of republicans by trying to engineer a false slate of nominees to replace OUR votes in the primary election.

(11,194 posts)He might get an influx of helpful campaign funds from mega donors and get some moderate creds which helps in Montana.
I wonder if congressional Democrats, especially vulnerable ones, are being told to do what they think is preferred by their constituents. If Biden loses too many, it will be obvious that the votes honestly might not be there for re-election. One would hope Senators and House members are more in tune with areas they represent to give a better idea of the political landscape by region than random polling.
