I used to love the TV show Coach. The funny thing is it was based on Minnesota football coaches. (Original Post) texasfiddler Aug 2024 OP

It wasn't so much about the football. It was about the characters. texasfiddler Aug 2024 #2

using the name "Hayden" from Iowa's head coach for about 20 years, Hayden Fry. I am pretty sure the guy who created the series was from Iowa City or close by. Think his name was Barry Kemp.

Hayden Fry during his years at Iowa became known for his exotic plays and his folksy one liners. "Dance with the lady that brung ya" always stuck with me.

ETA - the opening scene on "Coach" every week was the front of the Fieldhouse in Iowa City where the football offices used to be. Spent a lot ofttimes in that building playing racquet ball and basketball

I loved Jerry Van Dyke's character and the Minnesota humor thrown in at times.
