When your movement threatens violence if it doesn't get its way at the ballot box, and then carries it out, as they did on January 6th, and continues to threaten it, nut jobs and crazies are going to take the hint.
How was it possible for this particular nut case to get his hands on an assault rifle? I'll answer my own question. Because of Republican party support for the NRA who believes the second amendment means everyone everywhere has the right to own assault rifles.
Here's a second example in a political campaign why the guy who is the target is completely wrong about this issue and why he should not be allowed anywhere near the White House again.

(490 posts)and it wont be something pissant like weve seen so far. With the Administration aiding Zelensky to the point of allowing attacks in Russia with US missles and Trump ok-ing the assasination of Soleimani, its not hard to imagine Putin and Iran being eager to take down Harris and/or Trump. They have to be watching both these attempts thinking it wouldnt be that hard. And they wont use 20-year-old or 58-year-old nutjob life losers with questionable shooting skills. Theyll take out dozens, if not hundreds, just to take out of 1.
I want Trump and Vance defeated at the ballot box or mailbox soundly. Disqualification via legal means would work, too. I would never advocate, support, pray for, celebrate, or in anyway find one slight cintilla of glee over a killing in order to win. Plus, I fear our country would go to an even darker place if that happened.
We dont know enough on todays attempt to know if Routh is a false flag, a dry run for something bigger, or he let his hate drive him to do this. Thankfully, he was taken alive.

(6,090 posts)There are nut jobs like this, and copycats, small fry stuff that can be very dangerous because guns are so easily obtained. But there are other, larger concerns and those are the ones that the Secret Service tracks carefully every day.
Some of them are internal. Look at January 6th. And our justice department has puddled and piddled and fussed and bucked and shriveled up when a resolute posture should have been taken and aggressive action was warranted, regardless of how "political" they thought it might look.
