The Supreme Court delivered its decision in Bush v. Gore on this day in 2000, declaring that Bush would occupy the White House for the next eight years.
Also, if you own an Oldsmobile, you know that it was on the same day that General Motors announced that it would be stopping production of Oldsmobiles.

So we thought the B.F.E.E. machine had the 2000 "election" covered, with a brother in the crucial state for manipulating the vote, and the SCotUS stacked, and various Shrub offshoots in key places in other states and media. (32,886 posts)voted to give Florida's electors to Bush regardless of what happened with the recount. That, plus the Katherine Harris purge of legal African American voters gave the election to Bush.
If the SCOTUS had ruled in Gore's favor and the recount produced the result most of us agree that it would, Gore's FL electors would have shown up to vote along side Bush's who would have shown up as a result of the FL legislature vote. That would have resulted in the FLorida electors being disputed and ultimately would have thrown the election into congress. Since the House's state delegations were Republican, Bush would have been installed and the Senate would have voted for Lieberman for VP.
