With all the talk of this SOPA bill (which I called two members of congress about--- my current one and my new one as I was redistricted into another district), I was wondering to myself what piracy is.
If I post a music video from Youtube (the artist's official page there) on Facebook, is that piracy?
If a friend borrows a CD from me and happens to rip it in their itunes, is that piracy? (Before music was digital, if a friend borrowed music from me to make mix tapes with, is that piracy)
If I borrow a DVD from the library, is that piracy?
I understand the outrage, but many people use media and intellectual property for free. Some are paid through by taxpayer dollars (ie the library) and others by advertising (ie the artist's official Youtube page). Others use their (real-life) social network to use media that they would otherwise not have access to (for example watching a DVD at a friend's house that they do not own). I think we have to define piracy in the 21st century before this discussion can go further.

To them I say, good luck with that.
