He is not my president.

He has not earned the respect of that title.

It doesn't really matter to me how many votes he received. It did not change him to a decent or honest person.

He is a disgrace to our nation. He lied to and deceived his followers and the people of this country.

He should not be in the White House.

He should be in jail.

I will never call him Mr President.

You can call him whatever you wish.

I just listened to an audiobook where part of the story was set in WWII France and described some of the courageous Resistance fighters. What they did to preserve "Liberte egalite, fraternity." In spite of the fact that that nazis overran French defences, for many French citizens, hitler was not their leader.

Same with me with the rwnj that have been installed, the rwnj who are dismantling the Constitution of the U.S., the traitors gleefully selling my country to the highest bidder. Whatever rwnj want, they aren't getting. Anybody who voted for any rwnj is complicit in the overthrow of our country. Why legitimize their crimes? I won't.

Would you have “gone along?”

The threat is pure nazi-ism, in every word and deed.
Straight out of the fascist playbook, and the next step (after the immigrants, see below) is the takeover of the armed forces, by picking on one, and then another and then more and more until noone is left to uphold the constitution.

Speaking of immigrants. Niemoller:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

FASCISM MUST BE STOPPED NOW, BEFORE THOUSANDS, PERHAPS MILLIONS ARE VICTIMS.

One glimmer of hope is that the “four horsemen” now banded together:
Trump, Musk, Putin and Bannon
Have such insane egos and perversion that they will fight each other for power, money, sex, murder.

Don’t count on it.

They skillfully divide and conquer.

And the answer is _____________________

I watched the Trump's Apprentice every week the first year. I watched less and less every season until I wasn't watching anything. It had become boring and stupid.

I am not watching national news right now because his image could be on there. I am actively avoiding any image of his fat ass. I'm glad he has assholes to stroke his & Elon's ego. I'm just not interested.

And Americans gave him a popular vote win anyway. At this point, nearly ten years after the guy started running for President for the first time, after all the lies, overt racism and misogyny, utter ineptitude and outright treason, that bothers me a lot more than anything else.

It is in his DNA to cheat. It is not possible for him to not cheat.

We just don't know how he did it at this point.

We will eventually learn.

So, we are supposed to accept his legitimacy and move on?

No, we cannot surrender that easily.

The classic expression says it clearly:

The United States has only one president at a time.

On January 20th, Trump will be sworn in as the 47th POTUS.

Like you, I hate that man viscerally. He is a sub-human creature without respect for anyone or anything. He is a disgusting man who represents the worst of humanity at every level.

I'm an American citizen. Unfortunately, Trump will be president because he won a free and fair election. So, setting aside your emotions, answer this for me: Who will be my president next year?

Thanks, in advance, kentuck. Your posts are always insightful.

The majority of Americans, as you call them "the People" voted for Trump. Ergo, he is the president of the People.

I hate this perhaps more than you do. We're seriously considering moving out of the country. Our motivation is oddly not because Trump will be President. It's because we question the value of living in a country where half the people support man who:

Was impeached twice
Was convicted of dozens of Felonies
Was publicly unfaithful to all three of his wives
Was convicted of fraud
Was convicted of defamation
Went bankrupt at least six times
Was charged with illegal possession of top secret documents
Was charged with citing an insurrection against the United States
Was charged with election interference
As President, told over 30,000 lies in his first term
Is disgusting in every personal behavior

We wonder if we can live among people who support such a revolting person but worry about the price of eggs.

Sadly, as an American, I know the criminal Trump will be President. I'm sure you can see the personal conflicts in accepting this reality.

He received a plurality of the votes that were cast for the presidency.

King George did not continue to rule America because he did not have the legitimacy of the people.

I do not accept how he was able to manipulate the Justice system and the Supreme Court and not face accountability as would everyone else.

No, he is still not my president.

Your semantics are yours to believe in.

A majority of voters elected Trump. Is that a clearer definition of winning the election? He didn't just win the Electoral College, you know.

We'll just have to disagree on your semantics.

Still, I always read your posts on DU. I know you'll keep 'em coming.

Or what happens?

Any leader, including the president, rules by the legitimacy of the people.

He does not have a shred of legitimacy.

Remember, it is not who votes, it is who counts the votes. Where have we heard that before?

Should we continue to have faith in our voting system?

I anchor a weekly radio news program (The People's News - KPFT 90.1 FM Houston and on podcast) and I only refer to him as convicted felon Donald Trump. Not president-elect, not former president, just convicted felon. Sometimes I add "adjudicated rapist" or "twice impeached" to the title, but always lead with "convicted felon."

It is the truth. DO you think they will come for me? I find myself not caring.

Trump now wants acceptance from half the country who rejected him, but he has not earned it.

He proved he was unworthy of the office on Jan. 6 and proved it again on the campaign trail, including with that grotesque MSG rally. And Russia blatantly intervened on his behalf with targeted bomb threats that may not have swung the election but showed who their candidate was. Nothing Trump says now will change that.

I fear people are complacent because we survived the presidency of a different Trump in a different time. 2024 Trump is more dangerous and less constrained. He should be met with opposition.

Fri Nov 29, 2024, 01:30 PM

but he will not be “my” President. The word “my” is a possessor adjective that I would never in a million years use to describe my relationship to the 34 count, adjudicated rapist, twice impeached, con artist and lying criminal. That said, and as painful as it is, he will be “the” President on January 20th and it will be perhaps the darkest day in our democratic republic since the first shots were fired at Ft. Sumter. To hell with the disgusting and immoral voters who brought this upon us, and the media, willfully ignorant influencers, Republican sycophants, MAGA billionaires and corporate shills who enabled this horrific moment in time to occur. I, for one, don’t blame Biden or Harris, and I’m trying hard not to fall into despair and hope that we can form some kind of resistance, any which way we can. When the cruel policies start affecting the felon’s base, I just hope they realize the fatal mistake they made because of whatever reason they voted for this (inflation, racism and misogyny) and own up to the fact that they were lied to and how gullible and foolish they were.

98. Is this "My President" thing uniquely American?
Fri Nov 29, 2024, 05:16 PM
Nov 29

I've never had an emotional attachment in the positive to any UK prime minister. Negative, yes. Definitely towards Thatcher. But positive... Not really. I don't think Canadians have a positive attachment to Justin Trudeau like "He's my PM". And in the Anglophone world I think that's the case. Prime Ministers are always "the" Prime minister. Never "My PM".

The monarchy.... Similar unless you're a (small R) republican. Elizabeth was never "my Queen", always "the Queen" to me. I liked her, but I never "owned" her. Charles... He's the king. A misunderstood guy, relatively nice guy actually. Preferred his mother over him but he's not bad. But again not "my king". To die hard republicans no monarch is ever "my monarch".... To them it doesn't exist.

So in a sense no-ones is ever "my president". Not even Joe. And I like Joe. The upcoming guy? Nasty man. Real nasty.

we all agreed he should be dead... as in executed. We all agreed he was a traitor to the country via both the Insurrection and stealing/giving away/selling top secret documents. He should never have been allowed to even THINK about running for president, that led into "he should have been executed sometime within a year of the insurrection." And I think you know who's name was brought up after that... why did Garland wait so long? Did he have a deal worked out with the republican side? He is a republican, after all... just saying what was brought up in after dinner conversation yesterday... I don't know if it helped anyone's digestion, but we did feel better emotionally, and closer to each other, afterwards.
