Huckabee blames school shooting on "removing God from schools"

"Mike Huckabee told Fox News that today's deadly massacre in an elementary school in Connecticut was due to the lack religion in public schools.

Said Huckabee: "We ask why there is violence in our schools, but we've systematically removed God from our schools. Should we be so surprised that schools would become a place of carnage because we've made it a palce where we don't want to talk about eternity, life, what responsibility means, accountability?"

Yeah, Mike, that totally explains the Amish school massacre, doesn't it? Your "God" is a total dick, the way you describe him.

Guns don't kill kids in horrific school massacres, not having the 10 commandments on the wall, and prayer every morning in schools kills kids.

It's the oldest trick in the book.

"Hold on -- let me go in this back room and converse with the divine. He's a good guy -- lot like me, in fact -- but he's shy. Only talks to flabby ignorants obsessed with people's sex lives. Oh, and he needs money / blood / virgins. Probably what the spaceship runs on. Be right back."

who said the same thing as Huckabee earlier today? I thought I would puke when I watched it. The man was positively gloating. I'm convinced he long ago had his little speech written and ready to go, just waiting for a bad school massacre to happen so he could use the occasion to push his agenda of making children pray at school.

I'd like to believe a lot of people will be put off by this bullshit. Probably won't happen, though.

Sigh.

Here's the Fischer vid, if you haven't seen it:

his garbage on a tragedy like this. And yeah, it's one-size-fits-all. Fear me /pay me, or the crops will fail and the children will suffer. So transparently disingenuous and self-aggrandizing.

Grotesque.

I BLAME it on you.

I don’t know anyone in America who is a more effective communicator [than David Barton.] I just wish that every single young person in America would be able to be under his tutelage and understand something about who we really are as a nation. I almost wish that there would be something like a simultaneous telecast and all Americans would be forced, forced — at gun point no less — to listen to every David Barton message. And I think our country would be better for it. I wish it’d happen.

...that makes less sense. Or more sense, when you consider the person in question.

It's one thing to have to deal with a powerful being with all the petty cruelty of the nastiest sort of king of tribal desert dwellers. It's another thing to think he's always stupendously awesome, and any problem you have is due to slacking off in thinking about how stupendously awesome he is.

When that's your idea of a supreme being, you're wiring is scrambled.

because you figure out that he's mean and vengeful. For most people, belief or lack of it isn't a matter of choice. And, most believers in this country believe there's only one god. So you're kind of stuck with this one, if you're a believer.

You could, however, believe in him and decide he isn't worthy of your worship. Some people have made that choice.
