It's a horrible twist to a wrenching tragedy.

I don't know if she was responsible. What was she doing with ASSAULT WEAPONS, whose only purpose are to kill lots of people (kids in this instance) at a time? What kind of measures/locks/gun safes (or lack there of) did she have to keep such dangerous killing machines secure? Aren't some jurisdictions holding people responsible for crimes committed with their weapons, if they weren't properly secured?

I'm upset and joining the gun conversation for the first time. I imagine I'm not alone and that there will be many more new "gun control" advocates like me after today.

and if a crime is committed by your gun that wasn't locked up you get in trouble also.

It sounds logical to me, that a gun owner who fails to keep their gun adequately secured, should be held accountable in some manner, if their weapon is then used to commit a crime.

Just on those who actually have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Having the genes in ones family shouldn't make everyone in the family ineligible for a gun license. That's going down the "guilty 'til proven innocent" road.

The state cop in charge is having a presser now. He didn't say that. Basically not much more info about the investigation until tomorrow at 8am.

Not a single one of them owned a gun, let alone an assault weapon. What would cause a teacher, whose job it is to pass on knowledge to help raise a thoughtful, intelligent, and joyful generation of humans, to buy an assault weapon, let alone 3!!! of them?

CT is different from many states in that the wealthy towns here are not really all that conservative. There are only a few cities here in CT, it is a small state. We have tons of suburban towns like Newtown though. A little over 20,000 people live in Newtown. The more conservative area is the Northwestern rural parts of the state, in the 5th district.

Guns were created for the sole purpose of killing or maiming another sentient being. That's some powerful energy there, locked up and waiting to be released, and those who desire to release it know where to find them. Why would any peaceful being own so many guns? What is the fascination? Strength? Power? A subconscious desire to kill someone or something? I'm curious.

How much you wanna bet there will be a run on guns over the holidays while all of the NRA-talking-point people panic about the (hopefully) upcoming assault weapon legislation.

Well. Regulated. Militia.

It is through Kelly Services in Plymouth and Torrington school districts where I work. Not sure what staffing agency Newtown uses. Just wanted to make that correction.
