Re Mike Huckabee/God in schools: He's the governor who pardoned a future cop killer.

So I heard that Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas, failed presidential candidate, and now radio host who's competing in Rush Limbaugh's time slot, decided to play the God card in response to today's school shooting. So what's his explanation for that murder of the four cops near Seattle the weekend after Thanksgiving 2009?

Wikipedia summarizes:

As governor, Huckabee commuted and accepted recommendations for pardon for twice as many sentences as his three predecessors combined; in total: 1,033 prisoners.[67] Twelve of those had previously been convicted of murder.[68] Huckabee’s pardons and commutations became an issue during the 2008 Republican Primary, with most of the controversy focusing on Wayne Dumond.[69][70] Huckabee's handling of clemency petitions received national attention in November 2009 with the case of Maurice Clemmons. Clemmons had committed burglary without a weapon, and his 60-year sentence was commuted by Huckabee to 47 years, making him eligible for parole if approved by the parole board. The prosecuting attorney of Pulaski County, Arkansas vehemently objected to the commutation. As factors in his decision, Huckabee cited the unusually long sentence of 108 years for Clemmons, who was 17 at the time, that Clemmons had already served 11 years of jail time, the unanimous decision by the bipartisan state pardon board in Clemmons's favor, and the original trial judge's support for clemency. When Clemmons received the 60-year sentence, he already was serving 48 years on five felony convictions and facing up to 95 more years on charges of robbery, theft and possessing a handgun on school property.[71][72] After his release in 2000 Clemmons was arrested a number of times for multiple offenses including child molestation and aggravated assault, but was released after prosecutors declined to file charges. On November 29, 2009, four police officers were murdered in Lakewood, Washington, and Clemmons was named by witnesses as the only suspect. After a two-day manhunt that spanned several cities in the Puget Sound region, the armed Clemmons was shot and killed by a Seattle Police Department officer in south Seattle after refusing police orders to stop charging the officer.[73]

The Wiki article about Huckabee doesn't explain DuMond, but DuMond was the rapist who was paroled because he apparently "found God" while in prison. How well did THAT work out? In 2000, he raped and murdered a woman in Missouri. By his death in 2005, prosecutors were preparing charges over a 2001 rape/murder of another, pregnant woman.

Huckabee disgusts me. But given that Rush Limbaugh still is on the air after smearing Sandra Fluke, I doubt that he'll be fired from his radio show.

1. The real reason he pardoned Dumond:

One of Dumond's victims was a distant relative of Bill Clinton. So distant that they never met and may not have known they were related. But a Murdoch "journalist" (at the NY Post, I think) started a campaign of attack columns claiming that Dumond had been railroaded by a vengengeful Bill Clinton (who I guess was governor at the time). Column after column about poor persecuted Dumond, a victim of Clinton's Arkansas mafia.

So when Huckabee became governor, he pardoned Dumond -- with the proviso that Dumond leave the state. He'd found God and was worthy of pardon and all, but Huckabee didn't want him in his state. Thereafter, of course, Dumond raped and killed at least one woman in Missouri. He may have killed two, but died in prison before he could be tried for the second killing.

Good ol' Mike Huckabee is one of the most evil people in public life.
