Mother Jones : Papa Says It's Safe: 20 Astounding Gun Ads

In addition to the NRA, this is a big part of the problem:

Guns are not 'cool' or 'fun' they don't 'make you a man' ..... It's odd that they can regulate cigarette advertising, but not gun advertising. Even the 2nd amendment says nothing about advertising.

while recovering from severe battle wounds fighting the Germans. He developed it for the same reason that many Americans also contributed to developing better armament during WW II. Patriotism.
