lunacy.

wouldn't a much better solution involve creating a safer world outside the classroom?

A tragedy like this literally cries out for some governmental action. Since any logical action would involve some sort of gun control, the gun nuts only option is to "double down" and say we need more guns! I think they may have check-mated themselves on this, at long last.

told me I should get a gun. My argument was that for safety I would have to keep the unloaded gun and the bullets locked up in separate locations. In an emergency I probably couldn't get the keys and unlock both places,so,at best I would have to threaten a dangerous person with an empty gun or stand there and throw bullets at them.

I think guns in the classroom would be a similar situation.

I am placing they're safety in the hands of school officials.

While I don't think it's a good idea for all teachers to carry, I do think that those who train in their personal time should be allowed to carry and protect. Police can't always be there on time or be there at the opportune moment to subdue an individual like the killer in the conn school.

from happening is that you need to carry a gun to defend yourself from it.

That is just a repulsive thought to me.

We have created a society where it's normal to be afraid....

Dear god, why did I bring any children into this fucked up place?
