The Minneapolis Star Tribune has now disabled commenting for every shooting news and opinion

article...As of early this morning the comments sections were being flooded with pro gun/NRA comments, most of them pretty vile. It was as bad as or even worse than FR. I'm wondering if the NRA has mobilized some sort of organized comment campaign? Is anyone else seeing evidence of something like this?

that would be no surprise. Preemptive attack, forcing people to ignore gun control as an issue. ChairmanAgnostic Dec 2012 #1

Undoubtedly so.

Very very ugly, as even allowing for differences of sincerely held opinion, these belligerent types show NO concern whatsoever for those children and adults killed--the devastation to families, to First responders, to the community for the rest of their lives. This is undoubtedly a highly vocal (but hopefully minority) subgroup of gun advocates, but good gawd are they beyond my understanding and quite worthy of contempt.

Those people should be allowed to show just how vile they are. They should have a contest to see who can think of the most despicable thing to post. They should get out all their hatred for their fellow Americans and other people.

Because they have to come to the point where they say, "wait a minute, I don't want to be a part of this anymore, I am tired of this savagery, I want to live in a proper civilized society and be part of it!"

I suspect this time the NRA has sent out its astroturfers, to the point where the site had to cut off comments.

The threads I saw last night and this morning had many new handles posting, all apparently voting each other up. The regulars were not much in evidence.

(Miss running into you! The new setup down south is a huge step down.)

so I can do the crosswords and not have to read as much craziness (though Katherine Kersten is pretty horrible).

(So I hear. Glad I was able to retire and not have to go there. It sure wasn't the same after they took over.)

all the paranoid, delusional survivalists are peering out from their bunkers, trembling at the thought of their guns being taken away.

These types love their weapons more than their children. They think one of two vile things:

1 ) those babies are just part of the sacrifice of THEM owning huge stocklpiles of weapons

OR 2 ) Obama and the CIA used some mind control and drugs to make the gunman go into that school so that the nation would be forced to embrace gun control.

These are true FEAR_BASED individuals. They live in fear of their fellow man, of Bigfoot, of CIA mind control, of things that go bump in the night. They imagine themselves all rugged individualists who will be the only ones standing when SHTF.

Then they can start their New Nation, where all their prejudices are legal.

But they can't live to see that glorious day of revolution if you take their arsenals away!

So they post in ABJECT fear, like apes flinging poo all over with no regard for whom they might hurt. The way they shoot off with no control in choice of words, they prove they are people who are not going to be discriminate when it comes to shooting bullets.
