Proposal to directly address the school shooting:

Pass a Safe Schools Act (a la Clinton) to provide grant monies to beef up trained, armed security/LEO (2 or more per school). American schools can choose to:

(1) Use the money for more security;
(2) Opt out in favor of other plans (say, training staff to perform security duties;
(3) Opt out and continue a "gun free" zone.

Schools all over the nation can take the option they prefer. Obama can push this now. Personally, I think he would succeed and be widely supported. And millions of parents can take concrete action.

Are we serious about school shootings?

gun control. I wonder if the out-of-control hateathon here is a deep frustration with the Party's turn to the right, and gun-control is one of the few focal points remaining in a party whose goals are increasingly hazy, but pro-corporate/finance.

Boy. Big turnout for a discussion of this proposal!
