How have you DU parents explained all of this to your children?

I guess if you had a small enough child you could shield them from the news all together, but that gets harder the older they get. I don't have kids, so I don't really have to deal with this.

I actually started watching the news on my own when I was 9, and I saw a lot of things on the news that really freaked me out: one that I remember well was the TWA hijacking in 1985; also the Challenger blowing up and the Lockerbie bombing.
