We don't register by party here in Mississippi, so anyone can vote in the primary of his choice. I don't think anybody will run against Obama in the Democratic primary, so that means I'll be able to vote strategically in the Republican primary. Would Newt be their weakest choice? Should I stay out of it?

(5,330 posts)That's who I plan on voting for when I participate in the Idaho Republican caucus on Super Tuesday.
The debates between him and Obama would be epic!

(16,867 posts)Romney and Obama look very similar to a lot of voters, therefore Romney would probably be the biggest threat to the Democrats. I'm really hoping that Santorum will gain some traction.

(135,425 posts)The longer the Three Stooges (four if you count that nutjob Paul) stay in the race, the more they tear each other to shreds and fling poop at one another.

Romney has also done things like claim in 2007 that Bin Laden wasn't worth the effort of catching/killing and he protested in favor of the Vietnam era draft while he was exempt from the draft.
If these two look similar to some voters then I think it will be easy to draw one or two clear distinctions that help them see the difference.
I also think Santorum will be "next in line" for 2016.

(16,867 posts)sides. Who knows what will stick in the minds of voters and factor into their final decisions? If each side spends a billion dollars, that's a lot of bullshit to spread around. I think that Romney and Obama look similar to Independent voters and I think that the only way the GOP can win is by confusing Americans and making them think that their candidate is something he isn't. Romney would be the chameleon candidate for them.

(22,308 posts)It is an open primary state so I can get in on the action too.
I do have until February 28th to decide so odds are I will change my mind three or four times by then. Right now I am thinking Newt just to try and slow Romney down. Paul is an option too if it looks like he might decide to run 3rd party, I would love to encourage that too.

(34,139 posts)They switch their party affiliation so they can vote in the Republican primaries here in Florida and vote for the second place candidate in whatever the race is. It's especially effective if the race is close.
