if the NRA is truly 'the leader in firearms education', as their website touts....

why is there not a single mention of the CT incident on their website?

why are they not calling out to all gun enthusiasts to lock up their weapons when not in use?

where are their sympathies and prayers?

They're praying that the current furor doesn't' result in any more gun laws. As for the victims - they say "fuck 'em".

Years ago, that was the NRA's primary function: promoting competence and safety among shooters. And to be fair, they still operate those programs, and they're very good. Unfortunately, the organization has shifted its focus to politics, and extremist politics, at that. They have a radicalized, hyper-political leadership that convinces rank-and-file members to keep them in power via scare tactics.

My issues with the organization (and the reason I cancelled my membership more than a decade ago) stem from their politics alone.
