If you want to do something about guns follow the lead of the anti-abortionists

As we all know guns are legal, but then so are abortions and there are entire states where you can not get an abortion. So how did one legal thing become unobtainable and what lesson can be learned from that?

The anti abortionists did not attack abortions, they attacked the abortion providers and the clinics in which they operated. You may not realize it but it is already very difficult to get the federal license needed to sell firearms - but if you want to follow the tried-and-true methodology of the antiabortionists you might want to make the requirements for the Federal license so onerous that virtually no one could obtain one. And then there are the attacks on the clinics by the antiabortionists, well, how about security requirements for gun shops? Couldn't, and shouldn't, gun shops be super-secure in the interest of community safety? I would say so and who is to say that each community could not demand its own standards for gun shops? The antiabortionists shut down clinic after clinic because the buildings could not pass new standards ... take a lesson.

people. Most liberals do not revel in bullying tactics, nor do they have time for these shenanigans- as they are doing all the work of knitting the society together.

We care about people too and thus I cannot see this appealing to most people that I know. It is confrontational and rude. We are a civil sort, in general and not so much anymore these days on DU. But that is another point.

Something has to be done. If we can't protect our children from the gun lobby, maybe it's time to do away with a Constitution that's failing on so many levels. Americans have a right to buy almost any gun under almost any circumstances but not the right to vote or the right to healthcare.

Zealots don't consider the unintended consequences of absolutist thinking.In the case of anti-choicers, they don't stop abortion, they just make it more dangerous for those who choose it and also make it much more likely that there will be newborns in dumpsters.

What I'd like to see is a sea change in public attitudes about gun ownership and gun use in this country. If the slaughter of six year-olds can't accomplish that, I fear for this country.

where I collect tons of money pretending to care about something, get thousands of fools to follow me and pocket the money they send me. Move into the religious circuit and bring on the pious that are generous with donations and not their thinking. Then start the gravy train of carpet bagging grifter political yes men to start coming to me to get on the graft. Soon I have diluted billionaires with too much money and to little care of humanity to con into the game. They start force feeding another generation of idiots that grew up actually being in the cause and not understand it is all a con. They start actually passing anti gun laws. None of it matter because when push comes to shove I will be rich enough to move and acquire whatever gun I want if I need one while leaving a nation in a hopeless fight over a concept that is just a side show based on me getting rich over mostly men's total hatred of women.

I don't know, it might work but I might feel dirty in the end.
