Men are the ones who hold on to this system. Men are the ones who try to move back to a religious system where women are second class citizens, because they are the ones who benefit the most.

In a land with few resources, it's counter-productive to keep women uneducated; educating women, not men, is the fastest way to improve the standard of living (yes, there's been studies to prove it.) It's a self-perpetuating downward spiral.

And there are men in this country who would love to see something similar happen to women here.

I don't know how we can change this situation, or if we even can.

They are being treated as slaves. They have no rights at all.

And we are seeking to cooperate with the Taliban, who are the main proponents of this horrible system.

there doesn't seem to have been much concern in the past, by the "developed" nations of the world.

This article, and the news of the brutal attack on the woman in India, and status of women in general, in India .... are examples.
