The House has yet to act, so who knows what to think of that crazy crew...but, 89-8 - that's a really heavy lift of a Senate vote for them to shoot down.
2 things needed to happen, and the rest we can live with to fight another day, and believe me, we will.
1) Unemployment insurance. #1 above all....screw the tax rates, UI had to be extended. Period.
2) Payroll tax. Yes, I know the Bush tax cuts were to sunset also. I get that. But the payroll tax cut, which is all SS, was a gimmick we should never have gone for. It was REALLY temporary. Get that rate back up to where it was. The GT owes SS all the $$ the tax cut gave, so that just adds to the claim of "SS adds to the deficit." If you really believe in SS, you need to agree to the temp cut expiring and we all go back to where we were a few years ago. I personally believe we should raise the $ limit and add other income, but that is not today's fight.
Estate tax: bullshit, but okay, I'll take it right now.
UI, UI, UI....that is what really matters right now.
Be gracious now and then prepare for the real battle to come 2/2013....
Happy New Year. and Happy Valentine's Day, too! What did Pacino say in Dog Day Afternoon? When I'm getting f*d, I like to get kissed a lot! Attica! Attica! Attica!"
Let's rumble the Rs for good in 2013. Boehner is toast and no one wants his job.
Patience, Grasshoppers!

(14,101 posts)Now that is a joke. At the last moment they will kick the can down the road (again) for another fiscal "cliff" in 4/2013 or whatever. This is not governance, it leadership by vacuum. Profiles in cowardice.
