It doesn't sound too good for Current TV. Looks like Al is giving up, and it's about to become an Arab owned network.

(12,804 posts)Current had trouble expanding its market.
Last year, I called my cable company asking them to add it, but it still hasn't shown up on my cable channel listing.
Maybe Al Jazeera can expand the market. I hope they keep most of the Progressive hosts.
It sounds to me that they want to be a news and talk network that competes with the other American networks, not be an Arab network for the minority of Arabs and Arab-Americans that live in the USA. Current gives them a foothold into American TV market.

(549 posts)TYT/Cenk has been pretty down, if you will, over the past month or so. Actually, it hasn't been the same since they moved to their new set. I know they had to take some breaks recently for the holidays, but the online show wasn't live anymore and Cenk would go missing. He's been driving me nuts with the constant negativity, but I still enjoy the show and hope this doesn't affect their online stuff too much.

(6,890 posts)I really like the guests he has and the topics he chooses. It would be sad to see these shows go away.

And considering the high level of AJ reporting in the Middle East, I'm all for it.

(10,820 posts)What a completely transparent attempt to slime Current TV! Aren't you on the wrong web site?
FOX News second largest shareholder is a Saudi prince. Why are they not "dead"?
Cheers!

(3,194 posts)Forgive me if I'm wrong, but the article made it sound to me like Current TV won't be Current TV anymore. That once Al Jazeera takes over, it's moving the studios, and will supply their own programming.
If it's still going to have the same shows, then I'm not as concerned. Y'all seem to think that it's just ownership semantics, but I can't help but think there without Al running things, the liberal bias the channel has had, might be in jeopardy.

(327 posts)Is that worse than corporate owned?
What about black owned, that bad too?
or Native American
or Asian
or Latino?
or is it just nonwhite owned in general?
