As new members of Congress are sworn in on Thursday, Democrats are looking to brand the incoming Republican class early on. The DCCC is sending out the above "Tea Party membership cards" to the offices of 35 freshman Republicans.
Press releases in their individual districts identify each member as "the newest Tea Party House Republican who will put millionaires ahead of the middle class and dysfunction ahead of progress," according to DCCC communications director Jesse Ferguson.

(16,254 posts)Sorry, but I think this is a childish prank to pull. It would be one thing if one person pulled it as a prank, but not the DCCC or any other Democratic group. We are trying to get cooperation, not more confrontation. I'm not a lover of Republican ways, but I don't think the Democrats need to stoop to their level to get whatever point across that they were trying to make.
We are better than that, aren't we?

Perhaps in years past, such would be "friendly" hazing but in the toxic environment of today, it seems to take on more meaning than perhaps it should.

(8,821 posts)Democrats know how to govern through negotiation and compromise. It is only the Tea Party Republicans who want to obstruct and block anyone who tries to govern. They do so because they hate the very concept of a Federal government. In their elected positions, they do actual harm to our country as a whole.
See the difference now?

I responded to a "concerned" poster with a copy of the nasty rethug correspondence to incoming Dems calling them "dogs" and posited this as a reason for the Dem response.
See the problem with your post now?

(39,191 posts)For too long these scumbags have used every dirty trick in the book. Showing them WE will do the same may cause them to think twice next time.
We were 'better than that' for decades and we are still fighting battles we should have won 25 years ago.

(211 posts)Jeez...let's just accuse the other side of wanting to punch babies and kick puppies...that's a persuasive way to argue for a liberal agenda. What if we were to have a grown up conversation instead?

(211 posts)would at least include some direct quotes from the 38 bills being cited that would back up the authors claim....or might actually cite the specific bills so someone could find them...otherwise it seems like an unsubstantiated opinion piece. That doesn't necessarily mean its a false opinion, but the author provides nothing to prove that he is correct.

(211 posts)and eat icecream and cake at every meal, and never have a care or concern about anything in the world. One group of rich politicians has only the purest of motivations in everything they do. It's never about power, money, or their own self interest. The other group of rich politicians is consumed by hatred and evil. They exclusively look after their own power and self interest. Everything they do is driven by a desire to punch babies, kick puppies, force mass starvation, and push old people off of cliffs. Do I have that about right now?

(8,821 posts)This is a great idea, especially about the press releases being issued in these Tea Party fools' home districts. As Republicans continue to work against the best interests of America's poor, working class and women voters (and they will continue to of course) Democrats need to keep doing things like this to assure these lairs' true colors are kept front and center. If this is done continually until November, 2014, we really can turn this nation around, with a Congress which will work for the people.

(14,255 posts)obviously just being nicer is not working.
There needs to be some push back or some airing of what they really do stand for.
Sadly, some of the things on that list are cheered on by conservatives, like stomping on women's rights and getting rid of medicare.
But we should do what we can.
Actually, the response is classier and absolutely true, it is not making things up or cartoonish.
Which, ironically, may make it harder for the Tea party to understand.
I don't think they get irony, really.

(290 posts)Honestly, how fucking stupid. These should go to blue dogs too then. Don't forget the "I love oil more than him" debate. Or that doesn't count as stroking big oil? Seriously, if these were schemed, drawn, or printed on our dime they really need a fucking raise.
