Paul Farrell, group publisher of The Advocates corporate parent Hearst Connecticut Media Group, issued the following statement regarding the placement of an advertisement for an upcoming gun show next to a story about the reopening of Sandy Hook Elementary School:
Our newspapers should not be running gun ads including ads for antique and collectible gun shows next to stories about Sandy Hook. Its insensitive, and it shouldnt have happened. It was an oversight, and we apologize for it. We have taken steps to make sure it doesnt happen again.

We see ads that are directly contradictory to the topic at hand because the ad generator goes off of keywords.
