can an old gun be retrofitted to make it a smart weapon so that only the owner can fire it

if so, can we require all guns be retrofitted or traded in by a specific date .. or have another cash for clunker type of program that incentivizes the old guns to be traded in for new smart ones ( NRA can get on board with that one)

Otherwise, it's probably impractical and unnecessary to integrate an electronic trigger mechanism into existing firearms.

to manufacture a new weapon with such technology is very expensive, unreliable, and easily circumvented. Retrofitting older guns would not be practical in any meaningful sense.

created equal. My .22 single action pistol can't be made to only recognize me and if it could it probably would not be worth doing.
When I talk about reducing gun violence I don't mean we have to effect every gun in everyone's possession. We aren't about grabbing guns either.

for cops weapons didn't work out so good. Wheel guns or revolvers are rarely used much these days. It was like pistol cam the guns POV when it was shooting a suspect.. Guns are dumb weapons until their in someones hands. Stuff being worked on but nothing really totally effective yet.

The examples I've seen aren't something that would stop a determined person for long, but they would help prevent accidents (which are significantly more common, anyways).
