Pat Robertson Outrage: "Hard-Nosed," "Awful Looking" Women Are Ruining Marriages!
Radical Christian televangelist Pat Robertson with one of his most offensive statements of all time.
January 10, 2013 |
It always seems to be the womans fault. No reallycheck this one out.
So, a 17-year-old boy writes in to Maxim magazine, complaining that his father never pays any attention to his mother.
Im 17 years old and Ive noticed that there has been a change in my fathers behavior, he wrote. He spends too much time at the computer playing a war game. Ive noticed how alone my mom feels. I just want my father to spend more time with my mom. What should I do? How can I talk to my father? I feel shame for him. Please help.
Luckily for this perceptive 17 year old, the radical Christian conservative Pat Robertson is on the caseand his answer is, well, exactly what youd expect from this radical Christian televangelist. .........(more)

(14,177 posts)pays way too much attention to me. I don't think there is anything I could do to make him not pay attention to me. So, this is probably complete bullshit. Personally I think if one partner lets themselves go it is a symptom of bad things in the relationship not the cause of bad things in the relationship.

(14,177 posts)Either an unhealthy relationship with yourself or your spouse. And I think men let themselves go a lot more than women do. At least of all the marriages I have seen. Some people would think I let myself go, but I really didn't have that far to go.

(115,103 posts)When I see 'let themselves go', as often as not I read it as 'stopped falling for wall street's advertising and caring about superficial beauty standards (e.g. no primped hair, carefully applied makeup, etc.) so I think I was just thinking of something else.

(14,177 posts)I rarely think about how people look. But, when they look unhealthy I think it is a problem. I am not talking about putting on a few pounds. In my case I put on a hundred, losing it now. That is a lot of stress weight and one day we will all know how much stress contributes to weight gain we aren't there yet. I also think people have to have a good relationship with themselves. I am working on mine, it starts with being honest. I have a lot of stuff I have to work on so I am not judging people in the slightest, but I am making an observation. I really don't care if a woman uses make up or not or has a stylish hairdo or if a man looks GQ. In fact I prefer a more natural look. I also would rather look at heavier people, but if it's not healthy weight I support their decision to get healthier if that is what it takes.
I totally disagree with Robertson btw since I don't think I made that clear. His focus blaming women is stupid and telling. It is as if he thinks men are children that need to be coddled and women are the heroes that have to save them from themselves.

(115,103 posts)that I automatically imagined he would be encouraging a return to that 50's ideal (lie) wherein women had their hair coiffed and a pretty dress and makeup on so they'd be ready to look as pleasing as possible for their owners... Er, bosses... No, husbands.

(14,177 posts)I haven't seen a pic of Robertson's wife lately, but IIRC she looks like a Stepford wife. That is not a look you have to have to be healthy in the slightest.

Especially to men like Pat Robertson.
