Dr. Martin Luther King Day is the third Monday in January, which can fall on his birthday or be as late as the 22nd.

This year Dr. Martin Luther King Day falls on the 21st, which is also Inauguration Day.

It's hard to imagine the country as it was back then, unless you go to Freephell, where it's still the 50s.

I was a kid when he was killed, and still remember the day, though couldn't comprehend it at the time. I remember being confused by my parents' reaction, thinking, "why are you sad? You hate this man." Same with the George Wallace shooting, they didn't like him, either, but got mad at me when I expressed, I guess, happiness at the idea.

And, having been raised to be a True Christian™ redneck, it took me some time to get over the shit the redneck indoctrination put into my head. Some of it still exists in the lizard part of my brain, which is etched permanently. Have to wrestle and defeat it as the nonsense it is sometimes. Gets easier over time, now it's a natural response, but still have to deal with it, though less and less frequently.

Would be nice to reprogram the Lizard, or kill it altogether, but I guess we need the lizard brain somehow.
