I thought we were fighting the Civil War again, turns out it's WWII !
quote:
Ilse Koch was the Nazi's specialist in making objects from human skin; was the only woman charged with war crimes; and along with her husband was in charge of one of the most horrific horror camps in Nazi Germany.

(39,313 posts)and thought it was more of a general Republican talking point. Just like privatization was a while ago.
I attended a focus group on this subject a few years ago and noticed that no one was complaining about the topic -- retiring at a later age. I was the only one who thought it was a bad idea, the others were resigned to "working until they drop" etc. So now I realize that focus group was probably funded by the Koch Bros. It was conducted by a firm out of Washington called Greenberg I think.

(20,729 posts)are related to the family of Ilse Koch's husband, no evidence Ilse Koch's husband was related to Erich Koch, no evidence Erich Koch had anything to do with oil sales in Nazi Germany, & no evidence the Kochs ever did business with the Nazis.
On the contrary, they did business with Stalin.
That article is a contentless smear, pure & simple. "They have the same name! So they're related!"
The Kochs are creeps & it has nothing to do with the Nazis.
DonCoquixote
(13,616 posts)Though one look at Ise Koch's photo and the boys seems to disagree, as they have the same facial features.. but, let's toss that away.
The fact they formed the John Birch society, with begat the MCCarthy era, after HELPING STALIN, is more than enough.

Her name was Ilse, & her maiden name was KOHLER, not KOCH. Her husband was the KOCH.
So whatever resemblance you're seeing is entirely a creation of your own mind.

(20,729 posts)The American Kochs came to TX from the Netherlands in the 1880s:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Koch_%28businessman%29
Karl Koch (Ilse's husband) was born in darmstadt near frankfurt. erich koch was born about 300km away in wuppertal near dusseldorft. Having the same name doesn't make them relatives, and there's no evidence they were. There's also no evidence that Erich Koch had anything to do with oil sales in Nazi Germany.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karl_Otto_Koch
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_Koch
There's also an obvious factual error in that article:
"After the fall of Nazi Germany, Erich Koch and Fred expand the oil empire to the Soviet Union."
Wrong: Fred Koch's Soviet business was *before* WW2, not after:
Koch turned his focus to foreign markets, including the Soviet Union, where Winkler-Koch built 15 cracking units between 1929 and 1932.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_C._Koch
Fred Koch offered to build oil refineries in the Soviet Union that would be more efficient than those in the West. The young engineer's ideas were welcomed, and he was awarded a large contract to coincide with Stalin's first five-year plan, beginning in 1929. The contract called for construction of 15 refineries for an initial fee of $5 million, from which Koch and his partner, L. E. Winkler, are said to have netted a $500,000 profit. Koch's work in the Soviet Union necessitated sojourns in that country, offering the Texas farmboy an intimate look at the Soviet system while providing the cash he would later need in building his U.S. empire.
http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company-histories/koch-industries-inc-history/
There's no evidence that Fred Koch was related to Ilse Koch, no evidence he did anything with "Erich Koch," no evidence that Erich Koch was any relation of Ilse's, no evidence that the Kochs did any business with the Nazis -- & none is offered in that article. It's all smear & innuendo.
"They're all Kochs, they *must be* related!"
The Kochs are creeps, but not because they're related to Ilse Koch.
flamingdem
(39,313 posts)but aware it could be false, but then again there is a certain historical background in play and similar connections with the Bush family so one can speculate a little, but agreed not quite this much.
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)it makes.
It's pure smear, without any evidence whatsoever.
I have no brief for the Kochs, but this is just smear journalism. And it's really bad smear journalism, because it's pretty easy to refute. I'm surprised CNN allowed this on their website, even with the disclaimer ("not vetted by CNN"
Who wrote it? Some so-called 'artist' in NYC. "damien crisp': the bald guy.
http://www.picssr.com/photos/9009333@N06/popular-interesting
If I were you, I wouldn't put my name to such trash.
There's plenty of real dirt on the Kochs, why go for this garbage.
flamingdem
(39,313 posts)underline the capacity of these men to destroy others in the most cold and calculating manner, reminiscent of the Nazis.
So for me it is valuable to think about these connections, I think most of us know it's a stretch but there is a trace of the Nazis in these men.
